Chocolatier: Sweet Society is a PlayFirst game on Facebook. In this game you create and manage your own chocolate shoppe, make delectable chocolates in your factory, sell them to your friends and work your way up to building your own chocolate empire. This game has been rated a 3.1 out of 5 based on 3,368 reviews. It currently has 683,836 monthly active players as of September 2010. This game is also labeled beta.
This is a basic game in which you make a variety of chocolates which take a different amount of time and money to make. The customers are also looking for a variety of chocolates. Without the different kinds of chocolate, some of the customers will leave unhappy.
To start the game you are given a tutorial. First you need to choose your character and a name. Then you learn how to buy the display cases for your store and fill them with the chocolate you make. There is a limit of how many display cases you can have on your floor depending on your current level. As your level advances, so does your options for purchasing more and nicer display cases. You also have the ability to expand your storefront at a reasonable cost with either coins or PlayFirst money from the beginning levels of the game.
Once you have finished that the tutorial will take you to the factory and teach you how to buy a chocolate making machine. Also it will show you how to find the recipes and how to make the chocolates. Once you finish that step you should be at level 2 which unlocks recipes and gives you coins. As you progress there are many more chocolate machines and recipes to choose from. The recipes vary in time to make from five minutes, fifteen minutes, thirty minutes, one hour and longer. As you level up you can buy bigger and faster chocolate making machines.
Then the tutorial will take you back to your store at which time it will show you how to buy accessories to decorate with. There are many different decorating items including walls, floors, plants, windows and doors. This game also has an “elegance goal” for each level. Once you hit the elegance goal you will get to shoot off fireworks that will attract a long line of customers. You have the option to open and close your store. Be sure to close your store while you are stocking up. Make sure your chocolates are well stocked before shooting off the fireworks.
While visiting your friends you do get twenty coins and five experience. If you click on one of your friends chocolate displays it will ask you if you would like a sample. You can accept the sample and put it on display in your store. You are limited to three samples per day, not one per friend visited. But that is a good way to get the higher end items before you can make them. There are a variety of chocolates that you can gift to your friends, but only 12 friends per day. There is an expansion coming though. It says something about traveling the world to buy exotic ingredients.
You have another option to help you gain coins and experience by cleaning your display cases when they are empty. You also have to clean your chocolate making machines before you can use them again too. It is as simple as a click.
There is a Deal of the Day button and if you click on it you may do a variety of things to earn some PlayFirst money. Surveys, coupons and other offers can be tricky. Make sure you understand them before you sign up for something to get a couple “free coins”.
My overall view of the game is that this is a slow paced game. There is no energy to use up and doesn’t seem to have any gifts to need from friends. Everything is self contained in your own game. It looks like this game currently tops out at level 55 as there are no additional recipes after that. There seem to be a lot of limits unlike many of the other Facebook games that will let you gift 30 or even 40 gifts per day. So if you prefer the social games, skip over this one. But if you like the games you can play by yourself, this may be the one for you!
