Okay, everyone’s had your Christmas fruitcake and cookies, pies and cakes, candies and other treats. Sure, they’re all scrumptious, but isn’t it time for something new? A delicious treat that takes only minutes to make, looks colorful for the holidays, and requires dirtying no dishes? When you make Christmas shish kabobs you’ll have a table decoration, a package embellishment or even a delicious gift for a kid!
Use ordinary wooden skewers to make the candy shish kabobs. You can use the ones that are colored or the skewers which are natural in color. The colored ones help create a Christmas color scheme that’s beautiful. Make each of the shish kabobs exactly the same or make each one different, depending upon the foods you select.
Slide assorted foods onto the skewers to create a colorful effect. Slide on a donut hole, a brownie piece, a small chocolate, a dried fruit piece, a Gummi candy, and a marshmallow. Or, create your own combination. Leave small spaces between each food or push them altogether. Leave a small area of the stick bare at one end so the shish kabobs can be held.
Make all the foods on the stick the same, like all chocolate-covered strawberries, or mix various foods to create the shish kabobs you want. There are lots and lots of different foods you can use. Some of these include donut pieces, soft cookies, caramels, LifeSaver candies, cereal rings, Junior Mints, dried pineapple, cherries, apples and similar fruits.
As you make the candy shish kabobs set them in a cup or other holder. Make many of them and this can become a centerpiece or other table decoration. Guests can help themselves to one during the party or as they leave.
Make Christmas present embellishments or tasty gifts out of the shish kabobs by covering them with a piece of clear or colored cellophane. You’ll find it in Christmas colors and designs at any craft store. Cover all the foods on the stick with the cellophane then tie a ribbon around it. Curl the ribbon and tape the shish kabob to a package or give it as a gift.
The candy shish kabobs are an unusual treat that takes just minutes to make yet are suitable to give nearly anyone on any occasion. Make them for other holidays or just make them to give your kids as a special treat.
