Holiday Spirit Using Antique Angel Christmas Decorations
To remind us of Christmas’s message of peace, love, and compassion, angels reign supreme. Long popular as holiday symbols, these figures are available as many kinds of older decorations. Here are ideas for Christmas decorating with vintage angels.
Vintage Angel Bells Christmas Decorations
An interesting type of collectible you can use for this decorating theme is the bell. A wide variety of old angel figures, from sweet and cherubic to whimsical and witty are available in this form. Consider displaying a group of bells as part of a centerpiece, along a mantle, or together with a special music box angel.
For instance, you might find a 1950s “Lefton” ceramic bell in the shape of a cute angel, with hand painted red fur cape and cap, and white wings. Or another from the same era, carrying a huge candy cane. An antique brass bell from the early 1900s, decorated with a lute playing angel on top, or an old crystal angel shaped piece with finely engraved features would provide a very different look.
Vintage Angel Lights Christmas Decorations
Another idea for your holiday decorating is to use collectible angel shaped lights, both big and small. Christmas tree lights or light covers were made in the shape of angels; as were window lights, single figures etc. For example, a string of clear plastic tiny angel light covers would look sparkly and colorful trimming the tree. Or a celluloid Art Deco angel with lacy wire wings and skirt, surrounded by a tinsel wreath, hanging on the door. Single larger old figures, such as a light-up blow mold gold angel with blue tipped wings and hymnal, are attention getters displayed individually or as part of a grouping.
Vintage Angel Figures and Tree Top Christmas Decorations
A fun idea for this holiday decorating theme is to use a special old angel as the topper of your Christmas tree. Maybe you’ll find a sweet faced angel with glitter decorated wings and halo, wearing a honeycomb tissue paper full skirted gown. Or a vintage 1960s bird-carrying figure made of gilt gold card, with wide eyes and fancy robe.
Other angel figures of all kinds can be used as centerpieces, mantle decorations, or tree ornaments. For example, a collection of vintage “birthday angels”, produced, as decorative gifts would be unusual. These figures, popular in the 1950s and 60s were often made in a cutish style and decorated with the letters of a month and sometimes a birthday flower.
