Collectible Elf and Pixie Christmas Decorations
Captivatingly cute and impish, holiday elves with their huge eyes, pointed ears, and skinny legs, remind us to look for a bit of magic within our celebrations. These are ideas for unique Christmas decorating with vintage elf and pixie memorabilia.
Vintage Elves Christmas Tree Decorations
Begin your elf and pixie theme for the holidays by decorating your Christmas tree with an assortment of vintage ornaments. You can mix pieces shaped like or decorated with these characters in with plain ornaments, or cover the tree entirely with elves and pixies. Shiny green or red glass balls would help fill in around your theme ornaments, if you choose.
For instance, you might find a set of older dancing Christmas elves – with red, blue, yellow and green pipe cleaner bodies and tiny plastic faces. Ornaments from the 1950s, by companies such as Lefton, produced colorfully painted ceramic elf figure ornaments. Some were of comical capped pixie faces only.
Vintage Elves Mantle and Shelf Decorations
You can decorate your fireplace mantle, shelves, or furniture tops with a fun variety of vintage elves for Christmas. Figures of elves made from ceramic, wood, plastic, cloth, and other materials have been popular for decades. These were the subject of Christmas decorations, as well as non-holiday decoratives. Either type will look cute for your holiday theme.
For example, you might put a set of plastic, gold-toned, jeweled musician elves from the 60s on your mantle, surrounded with greenery and a few musical instrument tree ornaments. Ceramic Christmas elves with winking eyes, dressed in red suits and green caps would look adorable together with a collection of plush or colorful cloth pixies, with expressive hand stitched faces.
Some figures make unique arrangements for shelves or furniture tops. A 1930s N-O-E-L ceramic piece with holly and berry painted trim and figural elves in gold tassel hats cavorting on the letters would be an example.
Vintage Elves Christmas Table Decorations
Vintage or antique linens decorated with holiday elves can really tie your other decorations together. They also provide a playful and festive table touch to your table setting. Small scarves, table runners, tablecloths etc., were all produced in past years with Christmas elf designs. Maybe you will find and use a runner decorated with white bearded elves busily mending, cooking, and building toys.
Or a Scandinavian scarf with a design of cute cottages, evergreen trees, and elves carrying lanterns, underneath a centerpiece of knee hugger pixies on a candy cane carrying mini train. Hang a vintage plastic elf atop a mistletoe ball with streamers overhead, and you’ll have an unusual, fun setting for Christmas meals.
