Vintage Snowmen Christmas Decorations
Jolly and lovable, snowmen characters make us smile and warm our hearts with holiday cheer. Here are ideas for Christmas decorating with all types of vintage snowman memorabilia.
Christmas Decorations of Vintage Snow Globes and Snowman Candles
A collection of vintage snow globes would make a charming and unusual display for this decorating theme. Also called snow domes, these small glass spheres originated in the early 1800s. A miniature holiday scene is enclosed within the glass ball and white “snow” falls when the dome is shaken. Sometimes the globes are also music boxes and play Christmas carols.
For instance, you might find and use an old smiling snowman figure holding a snow globe scene of gliding ice skaters. Or a large antique snow globe with the entire miniature scene inside – rosy-cheeked children building a merry snowman. Display your snow domes in a spot that allows viewing of all their delightful details.
Vintage candle snowmen will look cute displayed in most any room of your house. You could create a small scene with them surrounded with seasonal greenery or a soft white fabric. Or put special individual snowman candles in strategic places to show them off. For instance a pair of older Mr. and Mrs. Snowman candles, with colored wax features and carrying broom and wreath, would look cute next to candle figures of Christmas carolers or children sledding.
Decorations of Vintage Snowman Christmas Lights
A fun way to really bring this decorating theme to life is with collectible Christmas lights of snowmen figures. These were made in a variety of sizes through the years, both electric and battery operated. Larger vintage snowmen would look charming upon a mantle or table top, and smaller pieces might be displayed on counters or shelves. A mixture of types would look interesting.
For instance, a 1940s white plastic snowman, with big smile, holly trimmed red hat and vest, green gloves, and black buttons. Or a 1960s tall whimsical guy wearing black earmuffs and carrying a striped candy cane. Figural holiday lanterns were also made for decorations such as red and green trimmed snowman’s face, or a full figure snowman shaped lantern of white and black.
Small vintage snowman figures would also make cute centerpiece material. Maybe a group of 1950s band instrument-playing snowmen surrounded by bottlebrush green evergreens and a small pinecone elf. Or some older spun cotton snowmen adorned with black plastic hats, felt features, and chenille stick canes.
Decorations of Vintage Snowmen Christmas Ornaments
Your holiday theme would not be complete without at least a few old snowman ornaments decorating the tree. You might find some 1970s snazzily dressed sequin covered snowmen, carrying brooms, wreaths, or candy canes. Or some vintage snowmen with satin ribbon bodies and shiny buttons, made to shimmer and shine upon the festive tree.
