Some people say the cinema is a bad place for a first date. I have always thought so, too. After all, how can you really get to know someone in a dark movie theater, sitting next to each other in silence, and determine whether a second date is kosher? But maybe there is a way you can see a movie and get acquainted with someone at the same time. Here are some romantic, first date ideas for those of you who live near Fargo, North Dakota.
Break the Ice Before the Movie
Hook up pre-movie so you can break the ice before the film starts rolling. Get together for dinner, coffee, bowling–anything that permits talking. Pizza is always a good choice; you could give Gio’s Pizzeria or Godfather’s a try. There are plenty of coffee shops in the Fargo area, from Dunn Brothers to Moxie Java–I love their Italian sodas–as well as West Acres Bowl if you are into something more interactive. Give yourselves plenty of time to connect ahead of time.
Of course, you will want to determine which movie to see, so that provides an instant conversation starter. Discuss your favorite genre, actors, and so on. How do your interests compare and contrast? Another benefit of hanging out earlier: if s/he turns out to be a jerk, you can leave before the date officially starts.
During the Movie–Enjoy the Silence
Hit up an early movie so you have plenty of time to hang out afterward (if you still like each other, that is). There are three movie theaters in the Fargo area: West Acres Cinema, Century 10 Cinema, and the Safari 7 Discount Cinema. Buy a large popcorn to share, or perhaps fresh pretzel bites with cheese, and a couple of drinks. Then enjoy the lack of conversation during the film, when there is finally no pressure to make small talk.
Post-Feature: After Movie Date Ideas
If you didn’t have time to eat dinner before the movie, grab a bite afterward. If nothing else, find a quiet coffee shop or ice cream parlor (like Cold Stone Creamery) where you can discuss the movie you just saw. I always enjoy talking about what I liked, didn’t like, or thought was completely unrealistic. Weather permitting, a walk in Lindenwood Park is always nice, where you can stop to stargaze or even have a picnic and get to know each other better.
Whether you live in Fargo, North Dakota or in a completely different state, the cinema isn’t always a lame place for a first date. In fact, a movie date can even be romantic. While it is somewhat difficult to make conversation with someone in a dark theater, there will be plenty of opportunities to talk before and after your movie date.
