My grand daughter is just shy of one week old, and her custom made changing table is not yet ready for pick up. While we are waiting, I decided to pick up some lap pads that we can use when we change her diaper. I knew what I wanted, as I had an idea of the kind of flannel covered, waterproof pads that I used on my own daughter.
Finding those kinds of pads, now 27 years later, was more of a chore than I bargained for. However, I did find a set of three Circo Jumbo Lap Pads at our local Target store. This pack of three lap pads retailed for only $6.99, which seemed like a good value at the time.
The set of three Circo Jumbo Lap Pads consists of flannel like pads that measure seventeen by eighteen inches, and the package I purchased has two white and one pale pink pad. The packaging is clear so you can easily see the contents, and the back of the package states these are “Ideal for cradles, changing tables and travel”. They have an inner waterproof barrier and a fleecy soft outer cover.
Circo Jumbo Lap Pads are made of 100% polyester, and can be washed in warm water on the gentle cycle of your washing machine, but no chlorine bleach should be added to the wash. They can be added to your dryer, but should be dried on low heat and removed promptly, and no irons should be used on these pads to remove wrinkles.
The pads have nicely rounded edges, and have designs embossed into the front and back of the fabric. The outer fabric is soft, but it is not quite as soft as the flannel receiving blankets I purchased. My son-in-law is very fussy about letting his daughter touch anything that has not been washed first, so I added these to our load of white laundry items and washed them yesterday afternoon. To say I was disappointed in the way these looked when they came out of the dryer is a huge understatement.
All three of these pads were covered with pills of fabric, some of them were very long and thready as well. It appears as if the pads shed some of their outer fabric! None of these pills ended up on any of my grand daughters pieces of clothing, or on any other items that we washed in the same load. The Circo Jumbo Lap Pads were also quite wrinkled, and because of this they don’t really lay totally flat on a flat surface. When I measured them, they appeared to have shrunk up some.
The Circo Jumbo Lap Pads are serving their purpose, and they were an inexpensive buy. Just as described, they are waterproof and have protected the floor or crib from staining of urine or bowel movements. Based on my experience with these pads after just one washing, I would look for another alternative in the future.
