Franklin Square is a beautiful soccer field, playground and picnic tables. It has a very rich history, and is a real asset to the Potrero Hill community. However, San Francisco’s budget is going to be $700 – 800 million short in the next couple of years. This means that there is less money for the city’s parks and less for their maintenance.
Every third Saturday is an opportunity to come out and clean up Franklin Square. As you can see the October picture of the clean-up ad, there has not been update since March, 2010, but you can be sure the need is there. If you live nearby, it is worth reading about the history of Franklin Square and how many people’s hopes and sweat went into rebuilding it to what it is today.
Every little bit helps, and its a great way to enjoy the outdoors and get to know you neighbors. The number to call is Friends of Franklin Square (415) 831-5500 or log in at http://friendsoffranklinsquare.org/join-us/ to volunteer.
