Let us be honest. It would be a folly to expect US Republicans and the Tea Party supporters to do anything with regards to climate change. The Republicans party-barring few, is completely against the climate change agenda. Two of their most prominent leaders-Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, are against the whole idea of climate change. They define it is as a natural thing and not an impending catastrophe caused by us humans. The Tea Party is even worse on climate change, they see the notion as a “green terrorism”, and a ploy to hurt the United States’ industrial sector.
November mid term elections has handed these loons a major victory and now they are the majority party in the House and in the Senate too they made bid gains. It is for sure that environment/climate change related bill will be clobbered by the right. Ron Paul-now a Senator is against the Environment Protection Agency, other tea Party backed candidate in the Senate and in House also not too far behind in supporting crazy positions like the one Paul has.
So, democrats winning 2012 elections seems the only way to get things moving on climate change.
But don’t hold your breath. The Democrats have good message but they are bad when it comes to delivering. Two years after president Obama’s historic win, what have they done for climate change? Instead of going out their and killing all the false message the Republicans and the conservatives have been spreading around about climate change, they chose to be “fair and balanced” and let the PR war slip. Now more than ever, there is less support for climate change initiative in the United States.
Europe looks like a better leader for climate change war than United States, honestly. What is working for Europe is that they don’t have elected leaders who believe in crazy ideas. Here is a sample:
- Rep. John Shimkus (R-Ill.), a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce since 1997, denies climate change based on religious ground.
- Florida Governor Rick Scott says he does not believe in climate change.
- Half time Alaska governor Sarah Palin says that climate change is a hoax.
- Rush Limbaugh says that climate change is an anti-capitalist agenda.
And the list goes on. Now with people like these how can we expect any progress on climate change? I have non.
