The CMA nominations 2010 quickly resumed awards season. This week’s CMA nominations 2010 selections followed the Emmys, although the CMA nominations are obviously different. In this case, the nominees were selected over a span of two days, with the last batch chosen on Good Morning America today. But on both days, Miranda Lambert was the big story, as she finished a record-setting performance. In fact, the CMA nominations 2010 gave Lambert the record for most nods for a female artist.
When the first seven categories were announced yesterday, Lambert topped the field by being in five of them. The last five, including Entertainer of the Year, were unveiled on Good Morning America this morning. Lambert read the names along with Dierks Bentley — and wound up saying her name frequently.
All told, the CMA nominations 2010 had nine nods for Lambert, which set the record for female country music artists. In fact, it was one shy of the overall record of 10, set by Alan Jackson in 2002. She is competing in categories like Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year. She also has two songs in the Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year races.
While Lambert dominated the CMA nominations 2010, it is no guarantee that she will control the actual awards. Lady Antebellum, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley and the Zac Brown Band are facing her for Entertainer of the Year, with Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift against her for Female Vocalist.
Underwood and Swift have been the most recent award darlings in country music, while Lady Antebellum has been the biggest country group of the year. The CMA nominations 2010 have set up some notable showdowns, which may go right down to the wire in the end.
Other than Lambert, Lady Antebellum had the most overall nods with five. But the next most-honored performer was Lambert’s own fiancée, Blake Shelton, who took four nods, including for Male Vocalist of the Year. The Zac Brown Band made off with four nods themselves, as they were the first new artists since 1982 to get into the Entertainer category.
These awards are advertised as the biggest in country music, and the CMA nominations 2010 may very well back that up. The show itself will test that claim on Nov. 10, as ABC will show Lambert, Lady A and company live from Nashville.
