Comic books up to a certain time some years ago were just great stories of super heroes that everyone was interested in because of the interesting stories.
Many people are recognizing that comic books that came out in the beginning, like the 1st Issue of Superman or Spider man became very expensive because true collectors are willing to pay big dollars for the issues that they are missing in their collection or first edition issues.
I recently heard a story of a family who was in deep trouble with their house mortgage and were told that they are being evicted. As they were packing up, one of them found and old box with some comic books inside. Many of the comics were were not worth that much. One book got them curious. The comic book was the 1st issue of Superman from 1939.
As they got an appraisal for the book they found out that in an auction setting it could be sold for as much as $250000. I don’t know all of the details here except that this is a 100% true story and that those people did not move out from their home. I wonder why?
Comic book collecting is quickly becoming a hobby of many people who heard this story or found out how much old comics are worth from the Comic Book Price Guide. Another 1st issue of Superman in really good condition recently sold on an auction for $1000000. What would you do with a $1000000?
In some garage sales you can hit a jackpot and find very valuable comic books. You have to be careful and check that they are in as good a condition as possible. Even if you find a book that is 20 yrs old (which is not that hard on a garage sale) if you are patient and are willing to hold it for another 20 years or even 30 or so, i guarantee you, that you will make serious money on those comics especially if they are Special issues or 1st issues.
I use to have comic books of my own and threw them out years ago. I also recently stopped back at a garage sale and bought about 50 comic books ranging from 1984 to the present time. I checked the prices for those comics and the most expensive one I own is worth $44.
I know that the comics I have now will appreciate in value in the years to come because I try to concentrate on 1st issues and special books. I put them away in a safe place and from time to time will look for interesting books on garage sales, estate sales etc. I started this hobby not too long ago and already like the return on investment I have made. I bought every comic for $1 since that is the price they usually go for on garage sales. I really have made money on 80% of the comics that I bought but am not in a hurry and will wait for them to gain in price much more significantly.
I recommend this hobby for anyone that has time since the investment is not that great.
