College football’s regular season in nearing it’s end with these games on November 13th. Wouldn’t it be a great time to have playoffs during the month of December and a championship game the weekend before Super Bowl? The following five games are the best picks against the spread and the best and worst teams against the spread this weekend for college football.
Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Illinois Fighting Illini -20
The Fighting Illini of Illinois are 7-2 against the spread and they are they are outscoring their opponents by nine points per game. They have given all of their Big 10 opponents tough games in their losses and their overall record is 5-4.
The key to Illinois playing a successful game is their power running game that is amassing over two yards per game and controlling the clock. Minnesota is giving up over 200 yards per game on the ground and could get run over in this match up. Take Illinois -20 over Minnesota.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs North Carolina State Wolfpack -19
The North Carolina State Wolfpack is only 6-3 straight up but they are 7-2 against the spread and 4-1 against the spread at home. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are 0-4 against the spread on the road and 3-6 against the spread overall.
North Carolina State beats teams through the air with a decent pass offense and a solid running game but defense against the pass is their strong suit. Wake Forest one hope in this game is to pound out a solid running attack which is possible since they average over 168 yards on the ground and North Carolina State gives up an average of 140 yards. Take the North Carolina State Wolfpack -19 over Wake Forest.
Utah Utes -5.5 vs Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame are once again stumbling to the finish line and now they will take on a Utah Utes team that is fresh off their first loss and an embarrassing drubbing by the TCU Horned Frogs. Notre Dame is without their star quarterback and they have yet to establish their running game.
The Utah Utes come into this game averaging over 175 yards on the ground and only 245 through the air. Many prognosticators will employ the handicappers theory of a let down game for Utah after the loss. This could not be further from the right call. Utah wants to re-establish themselves in this game and pound the weakened Notre Dame team on their home field.
Notre Dame is 0-4-2 against the spread on the home turf and 2-5-2 against the spread overall. Utah is 3-1 against the spread on the road and 6-2-1 overall against the spread. More chalk in this game. Take the Utah Utes -5.5 points over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Oklahoma State Cowboys -5.5 vs Texas Longhorns
What has happened to Big 12 power house Texas. They are 2-7 against the spread this season and 0-4 against the spread on their home field. The opposite end of the spectrum features the Oklahoma State Cowboys. They are living large off the passing game and rattling off over 353 yards of passing per game to go along with 195 yards on the ground per game. The combined average offense for Oklahoma State is 549 yards per game, the most in college football. Take the Oklahoma State Cowboys -5.5 points over the Texas Longhorns.

The Penn State Nittany Lions are in a rebuilding year but they have shown signs of life this season. Their passing game is non existent, only totaling 219 yards through the air.
