College football enters its fifth week of games October 2nd. As the better teams begin to shake out there are still a few surprises such as the Texas Longhorns losing to the UCLA Bruins. The SEC will host a classic battle of Alabama hosting the Florida Gators, while the Notre Dame Fighting Irish make a rare appearance on ABC.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish -2.5 vs Boston College Golden Eagles 5:00 PM (ABC)
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have already shown they are going to take some time adjusting with their new head coach Brian Kelly. A road game may not be the best medicine for this struggling team and Boston College knows this may be their last chance to take down Notre Dame for a while. Take the Boston College Golden Eagles +2.5 points over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Florida Gators vs Alabama Crimson Tide -7.5 5:00 PM (CBS)
This game would have been much better last year but now the Florida Gators are pretenders and the Alabama Crimson tide are for real. The real hurdle for the Alabama Crimson Tide came from the Arkansas Razorbacks last weekend and with that game behind them Alabama should be fired up to run rough shod through the rest of their schedule. Take the Alabama Crimson Tide -7.5 over the Florida Gators.
Penn St Nittany Lions vs Iowa Hawkeyes -7 5:00 PM (ESPN)
The Penn St Nittany Lions enter this game in a down year but the Iowa Hawkeyes have not been hitting on all cylinders under quarterback Ricky Stanzi. Head coach for the Iowa Hawkeyes, Kirk Ferentz is not taking anything for granted as he faces his idol, head coach Joe Paterno. The Penn St Nittany Lions will be lucky to only lose this by 20 but be careful of a back door cover if Ferentz does not run up the score on Paterno. Take the Iowa Hawkeyes -7 at home to beat the Penn St Nittany Lions.
Stanford Cardinal vs Oregon Ducks -7 5:00 PM (ABC)
The Oregon Ducks beat the Arizona State Sun Devils last week but it wasn’t pretty. The chinks in Oregon’s armor may have been revealed by the Sun Devils and this game may not go as many are predicting. The Stanford Cardinal are nationally ranked under Jim Harbaugh and they should not be taken lightly.
This could be the game of the night and with it scheduled opposite Florida and Alabama many of the viewers should be switching over by halftime. Oregon will attempt to run the ball in this game but if they do get stopped early Stanford will have control. Take the Stanford Cardinal +7 points to beat the Oregon Ducks straight up. Stanford is +230 as a straight up winner.
Nevada Wolfpack -20.5 vs UNLV Rebels 7:00 PM (Mountain Network)
Colin Kaepernick is still under the radar until the Boise State Broncos meet up with them later this college football season. Kaepernick is a one man wrecking machine at quarterback that can beat a team with his arm or with his feet. The last time Colin Kaepernick came to Las Vegas he left UNLV Rebels bodies strewn across the field in his wake. This game will not be close and if UNLV can score 14 points in this game they should consider it a moral victory over the team from up North. Take the Nevada Wolfpack -20.5 over the UNLV Rebels.
