College football opens up September 2nd with seven games and some legendary football programs featured. The Las Vegas Hilton Superbook has had their hands full with players losing & gaining eligibility at the last second. The Minnesota versus Middle Tennessee State is a perfect example. Quarterback Dwight Dasher was suspended then reinstated just days before the game is to take place Thursday.
Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles vs South Carolina Gamecocks -13.5 7:30 PM
Southern Mississippi is not the greatest team in the NCAA and Steve Spurrier’s South Carolina Gamecocks are no offensove juggernauts. This game has low scoring written all over it. South Carolina looked to schedule a push over in this spot but they may be mistaken if they think they can walk over Southern Mississippi.
Stephen Garcia has not been guaranteed the starting quarterback position and is in a battle with Conner Shaw as the season gets underway. The South Carolina defense has been the savior of the team over the years and this year could be no different. Take Southern Mississippi +13.5 points to win the bet against the spread.
Marshall Thundering Herd vs Ohio State Buckeyes -29.5 7:30 PM
The Ohio State Buckeyes never start out the season with a huge statement win and this year could be par for the course. The Marshall Thundering Herd should put up some decent numbers throughout the year but will be stifled by the over sized Ohio State defense.
Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor is also known for his slow starts. He will need to produce from day one this year if he wants to be part of the Heisman Trophy discussion. Take the Marshall Thundering Herd +29.5 to win the bet against the spread.
Northern Illinois Huskies vs Iowa State Cyclones -3.5 8:00 PM
Big 12 doormat Iowa State needs to win every game they can in the 2010 NCAA college football season. This game against Northern Illinois is not going to be the toughest game of their year but they have to beat a strong and focused MACC team. Take Iowa State -3.5 to cover the spread and win the bet.
Pittsburgh Panthers vs Utah Utes -3.5 8:30 PM
The Utah Utes will be playing their last season in the Mountain West Conference before they make their move to the PAC 10. The Pittsburgh Panthers come into this game with a solid running game led by sophomore Dion Lewis and will be expected to compete with Utah in a clock management game. Utah will overcome Pitt’s efforts and cover the 3.5 point spread at home.
USC Trojans vs Hawaii Warriors -21 11:00 PM
The USC Trojans will travel to Hawaii for their first game of the season. The two teams have played six times over the years and the match up has been lopsided. USC has never lost to Hawaii and the closest game the two have played was a 21-5 game in the Aloha Bowl. Most of the other games have been blowouts. Take USC -21 to cover the spread and win going away.
Minnesota Golden Gophers vs Middle Tennessee State -3 7:30 PM
Heading into this game, the status of Dwight Dasher the quarterback of Middle Tennessee State, was up in the air. Dasher was not reinstated until Tuesday and with Dasher in the game, Middle Tennessee State is the favorite of this match up. Minnesota is playing for the pride of the Big 10 and they will have tremendous pressure to win this game. Take Minnesota to not only cover the +3 point spread, they will win the bet outright.
