The college football rankings 2010 will have three unbeaten teams on top. Otherwise, the college football rankings 2010 stand to be a bigger mess than usual below them. Thanks to Boise State and LSU losing, the national championship picture seems to have only three contenders left. Oregon and Auburn still control things, with TCU now almost assured of being No. 2 if one of the leaders lose. But should total chaos reign next week, today’s college football rankings could be big, in determining who else might benefit.
Oregon and Auburn will be 1-2 in some fashion again, while TCU should stay No. 3 in the BCS. What’s more, now that Boise State has been knocked out, the Horned Frogs will be No. 3 in the human polls again as well.
After that, the college football rankings 2010 stand to be messy. LSU could have made a case by beating Arkansas, which would have made the Tigers 11-1. Having an 11-1 SEC team below TCU could have been a big talking point, even if LSU couldn’t win the conference. Instead, they are out of the championship picture, and likely out of the BCS entirely.
As such, many will be focused on who the new No. 4 will be. Stanford and Wisconsin seem to have the best shot, as Wisconsin will probably be No. 4 in the human polls, at the least. This would give the Badgers the Big Ten title in a tiebreaker, while the Cardinal now seem set to reach the BCS after all.
The question is whether the college football rankings 2010 will get them close enough for something more, should total chaos reign. If both Oregon and Auburn lose, then everything will be thrown into question for the national title game. TCU would probably get in on that scenario, but determining their opponent would get complicated.
Given the Ducks and Tigers’ body of work, one of them could still get in even with a loss. Stanford and Wisconsin might object to that, but they may be too far behind in the BCS to make up the deficit. For the Cardinal, their loss to the Ducks would probably keep Stanford from jumping Oregon, no matter what.
Of course, given how things have gone lately, having both Oregon and Auburn lose would be a tall order. If they both win, there will be no question to how the final college football rankings 2010 would go. If just one of them loses, then the other will likely face TCU for the title – unless the loser goes down in a close game.
For now, it appears that Oregon, Auburn and TCU are the only championship contenders left. However, the college football rankings below the top 3 today will determine who still has a pipe dream left.
