Week 6 college football rankings are out, and Oregon fans have reason to celebrate. In the latest college football rankings, Oregon has passed Boise State to take over the No. 3 spot in the AP Top 25. That is quite an accomplishment, and it shows that voters wanted to reward Oregon for beating Stanford on Saturday. It was an amazing game, and one which Oregon pulled out late and ended up winning in decided fashion. That win pushed Oregon up to No. 3, and bumped Boise State down to No. 4, despite the Broncos winning their game 59-0 over the weekend.
With Alabama beating Florida, voters were also extremely pleased with the Crimson Tide, and it turned into even more first place votes than normal. Ohio State just squeaked by Illinois on Saturday, and that ended up costing them a few votes. This week, the AP Top 25 gave 58 first place votes to Alabama, one first place vote to Ohio State, and then one first place vote to Boise State as well. It shows that there is a lot of support for Alabama right now, which record 1,497 points out of 1,500 possible. Now the intriguing top 5 has Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, Boise State, and TCU in that order.
Several teams saw their stays in the AP Top 25 come to an end on Saturday, meaning they have a lot of work ahead of them to get back into the mix. The Texas Longhorns lost to Oklahoma, and that bumped them out of the Top 25 for the first time in quite a while. USC was upset by the Washington Huskies, North Carolina State lost to Virginia Tech, and Penn State fell to Iowa. That knocked those three schools out of the Top 25 as well, and gave their opponents a very nice push in the rankings. For Virginia Tech, they are suddenly receiving much more respect than when they were upset in the second week of the season.
Four new schools joined the bottom of the AP Top 25, giving a very interesting look to the bottom of the poll. No. 22 is now Oklahoma State (who beat Texas A&M), No. 23 is Florida State, No. 24 is Missouri, and No. 25 is now Air Force. This is an Air Force team that has one of the tougher schedules out there, and it could see them garner quite a bit of respect later this season. Other notes on the AP Top 25 are that Michigan State is now ahead of Michigan, Wisconsin fell to No. 20, Stanford fell to No. 16, and Arizona was bumped all the way up to No. 9. Utah also broke into the top 10 as the No. 10 team.
