Reno, Nevada has expanded far beyond the old reputation as the place to get married or divorced quickly. It’s a lot more fun to have visitors come for the entertainment and excitement offered by “The Biggest Little City in the World.” The Eldorado, located at 345 N.Virginia St, Reno NV 89501, invites you to help them celebrate the sights, sounds, and tastes of Italy on Saturday and Sunday, October 9 & 10, 2010.
The celebration for this local Columbus Day event kicks off Saturday from 10 to 7, and winds up Sunday from 10 to 6. It will be held on Virginia Street, in front of the hotel, and at the Eldorado special events area on Fourth Street. Two stages with free live entertainment is reason enough to visit Reno, but that is just the beginning. Around our house everyone makes spaghetti sauce differently; it must be common, because there is a spaghetti sauce cook-off. From late-night TV, does anyone recall Lucille Ball stomping grapes for wine? Well, of course Lucy won’t be at this event, but it will still be entertaining to watch the grape stomping contest.
Did someone just ask about kid-friendly? Those bambinos will have an awesome time with the kids’ gelato eating contest! Enjoy the street performers as you sample some traditional Italian fare and browse through the exhibits. Take a break from the action at the gourmet Italian buffet inside the casino, starting at 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
Enjoy the last big Farmers’ Market of the season while you are downtown. In Christopher Columbus’s honor, see the Castroville Artichoke Growers and the Garlic Growers Association of Gilroy exhibits.
Parking is plentiful at the various lots and garages around the area. Most parking is free, but confirm that information when you enter any ticketed area. Follow this link for directions.
