On Sundays when football games are on, the last place I want to go is the gym. But I don’t have to turn into a couch potato. Instead of guzzling beer, I do mini workouts during the commercials. I rotate between basic push-ups, sit-ups and squats, and do one for the whole duration of the commercial break. In the beginning it’s a breeze, but by the time the third quarter rolls around, I really start to feel the burn. This gives a whole new meaning to the term “commercial break”.
Commercial Break Workout:
When the first commercial comes it means it’s time to get started!!
1. Start with sit-ups. Put your feet under a secure foundation like a couch. Start by lying on your back with the arms behind the head. Try to bend your knees to reduce back stress. Then engage your abdominals and elevate your upper body until your shoulders are completely off the ground. Do this until the commercial break is over.
Second commercial comes on!! Let’s go!
2. Start the pushups. Lie chest-down with your hands at shoulder level, palms flat and shoulder-width apart, your feet together and parallel to each other. Lift your body off the ground by extending the arms, keeping your torso flat and knees extended. Bring the body back down under control and repeat. Do this until the commercial break is over.
Third commercial comes on!! Do you feel the burn yet!
3. Start the squats. Make sure you are squatting with glutes pushed back as if you are sitting in a small chair. You
should be able to see your toes at the bottom of the movement. Do this until the commercial break is over.
Repeat these three exercises for the course of the TV show.
