Dancing with the Stars Season 11 certainly has had its share of controversy. Teams receiving the lowest scores from the judges and teams on the bottom of the leader board remain in the competition. Teams that are in the top two or three on the leader board and teams that receive a perfect score in their dance routines on performance night have been asked to leave the following night during the results show.
Host Tom Bergeron said throughout this season, “Anything can happen”, and for fans that was an understatement. Here is a break down of some of the controversial moments on Dancing with the Stars Season 11.
The Controversy began before the season started.
Even before the show began critics were complaining about the choice of Bristol Palin as a contestant. The main criticism was Palin wasn’t a star or a celebrity. Even Barbara Walters chimed in on ‘The View” stating the only thing Bristol Palin is known for is being the unmarried teen daughter of Sarah Palin.
Judge Bruno Tonioli calling Michael Bolton’s jive the worst in five seasons.
Michael Bolton and partner Chelsie Hightower received a 12 from the judges for their jive preformed to Elvis Presley’s ‘Hound Dog’. Judge Len said the only thing missing was a “pooper scooper” to clean up the doggy mess. The conterversary erupted as Bolton ‘s fans came to the singers’ defense when Judge Bruno called the dance the worst jive in 11 seasons.
Mrs. Brady kisses Greg on lips and is voted off.
After Barry Williams, who played Henderson ‘s son in ‘The Brady Bunch’, paid a visit to the set of Dancing with the Stars and received a kiss on the lips from his television Mom, many viewers were turned off. The kiss was the topic of discussion on ‘The View’ with Sherri saying, “Mrs. Brady, what were you doing? Yuk”.
Henderson told Sherri when she and partner Corky Ballis appeared on ‘The View’, after being voted off, to “get a reality check, it wasn’t like there was any tongue involved”.
This was the first week in Season 11 that the lowest team on the leader board wasn’t eliminated.
Audrina Patridge Eliminated Week Six.
No one had seen this coming. The odds makers in Vegas had Audrina as finishing the competition in the top three along with Jennifer and Brandy. Audrina and Tony finished the week in second place with the judges scores and everyone assumed they were safe. Wrong!! Len called the fact they were in jeopardy at all, “ludicrous”. Their elimination left everyone in shock.
Bristol Palin Still in the Competition
Despite being on the bottom or near the bottom of the leader board week after week Bristol Palin and partner Mark Ballis escape elimination. During week nine Len told Bristol , “Despite the fact that you have been at the bottom two on the leader board for six out of the past nine weeks, you are still in the competition”.
Week after week as team ‘Ballin escaped elimination rumors of a Tea Party conspiracy began to surface. Bristol responded by saying she felt people voted for her “because they could relate to me, I’m just an ordinary person”.
Brandy Voted Off Week Nine
ALL YOU KNOW WHAT broke out when Brandy and Maks were voted out during the semi finals. Bristol again was on the bottom of the leader board, and Brandy and Maks had received a perfect 30 for their Argentine Tango. Brandy had consistently been at the top of the leader board throughout this season. It made no difference as Brandy was voted off one week shy of the finals.
One week to go on Dancing with the Stars Season 11 and the controversy continues.
