Daytona Beach is a unique Florida city that found fame through a different kind of tourism. Its fantastically straight and long white sand beaches would have made it famous on its own had it not been for early car racing. When going 60-mph was thought that meant your face would peel off, hot rods of all sorts broke that barrier right on the beach. And that beginning has now turned into one of the biggest stock car races each year, the Daytona 500. With so many cool things to do in Daytona, it was hard to pick the coolest outdoor activities in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Drive the Beach
While this one seems obvious, it’s the first thing you should do when you arrive into this rambling motor city of the south. For just $5.00 per vehicle, you can drive up and down the beach. Don’t worry about getting stuck in the soft sand, so many people drive up and down this well compacted sand beach that it’s like asphalt. For more info on driving the beach, access ramps, swimming conditions, lifeguard stations or any other rules and regulations, check out www.discoverdaytona.com.
Boardwalk and Pier
Daytona Beaches biggest draw, the pier and boardwalk boasts a huge amount of cool outdoor activities. From the sky ride to the end of the pier to the towering bungee swing to the arcades and prizes, the boardwalk and pier have way too many fun things to even begin to list in this article. My favorite is the classic arcade, Walkin Charlie’s. This arcade is old school, so break out the tokens for Ms. Pacman.
The boardwalk and pier are directly located at the end of Main Street.
Had enough swimming in the saltwater? Why not go for some freshwater waterslides! Daytona Lagoon is located on Earl St, south of Main Street. This super cool water park has high flying slides, lazy rivers and a wave pool. Even if you don’t feel like swimming, the go karts and rock climbing walls should be enough for all the fun you can handle. Check out Daytona Lagoons Website for more info.
