Kristin, the blogger behind Couponing to Disney saved $3300 to take her family to Disney by using coupons. Her family spent 12 days at Disney this past May and not one dime came out of her family’s paychecks. It was all saved by using coupons, rebates and finding extra ways to earn cash.
She showcases how she saves and teachers others how to do the same on her blog CouponingtoDisney.com. I got a chance to chat with Kristin about how the blog started and how anyone can get to Disney or wherever they are dreaming of vacationing through couponing their way to their destination.
-When did you start the site?
I started the blog shortly after our trip to Disney in May 2009. I didn’t start seriously posting until Sept 2009.
-Where did your inspiration to Coupon to Disney come from?
We went to Disney for the first time in May 2009 and fell in love with it. We knew we wanted to go again but we couldn’t afford to pay for it out of my husband’s income. So we decided to Coupon to Disney.
-What are your top tips on saving for a vacation?
You must be committed to it. If you really want to save for a vacation, you need to put reminders about the vacation around your house. I have a Disney bank where I keep the loose change. I also have our Disney pins displayed on a bulletin board in the kitchen. Seeing them keeps me inspired to save what we can.
Disney is the happiest place on earth. From the time you arrive on property until the moment you depart, you are immersed in Disney magic. Disney waits on you hand and foot and their goal is to make sure you are as happy as possible. You truly feel like a prince or a princess. Who doesn’t want that kind of magic in their life? Plus the joy it brings to the kids faces. I love seeing my kids eyes sparkle with excitement as they take everything in.
-Where do you get your coupons?
Coupons are everywhere. They aren’t just in the Sunday paper. I find them at the grocery store, on products, I print them online, receive them in my email, etc. The biggest way I get coupons though is by writing to the companies. I give them my honest opinion of their products and usually they will send me high value coupons in return.
-What region of the country do you live in?
-Where do you see the website in 10 years?
I see the blog still going strong. I love teaching others how to save for dreams they didn’t realize they could afford. It is so motivating to get an email from a woman who can now stay at home with her children because of the things I taught her, or a couple that gets to see their family after 3 years because I taught them how to save so they could afford the plane tickets. I don’t see myself every stopping. I love helping others achieve their dreams.
