Getting ready for the Thanksgiving holiday means you need some arts and crafts on your refrigerator, right? Your kids will be happy to help you accomplish that task. Below are some fun and easy Thanksgiving construction paper crafts that make awesome refrigerator art.
Hand and Foot Turkey
This little turkey is made almost entirely from your child’s hand and foot cut outs. You can see an image of the craft here. To make this turkey, you will need red, brown, yellow and orange construction paper, scissors, glue, a pencil and something to use for the eyes (you can cut scraps of white and black paper for the eyes).
Trace around your child’s feet. You do not need to draw the toes. Look at this image to see the basic shape. Also trace around your child’s hands. You need a set of hands in yellow, red and orange for a total of 6 hands.
Glue the feet cut outs together to form the turkey’s body. Glue the feet with the heels at the top and with the toes pointing out and a bit separated. Use this image as a guide. Glue the eyes on the face and also cut a wattle and beak shape out of orange construction paper. Glue the wattle and beak below the eyes. Cut two turkey legs out of orange construction paper and glue them to to back of the body so they stick out below the body.
Glue all the handprints to the back of the turkey to make the feathers. Glue the handprints so the thumbs are pointing in and the fingers are pointing out. See this image again as a reminder. Your turkey is now ready for the refrigerator.
This tree is another craft that uses child’s handprints as cut outs. You can see an image of the craft here. Start by cutting out a simple tree trunk shape as shown in the image. Then cut out lots of handprints in red, yellow, green, brown, and orange. Glue the tree trunk to a larger piece of construction paper or cardboard. Then glue all the hands to the branches to make the leaves. You can also have the kids write something they are thankful for on each hand. During thanksgiving dinner, have the kids read what is written.
String of Leaves
This string of leaves is homemade garland that is made from simple leaf cut outs hung on yarn. You can hang the string of leaves across doorways or string them over your Thanksgiving day dinner table. Draw leaves on various colors of construction paper. You can use this template to draw the leaves. Then cut out all the leaves and attach them by the stem to a long strand of yarn. You can attach the leaves with glue or staples. Make the garland as long as you need it to be. To see an image of what the garland will look like, click here.
