Learn how to make a party invitation that is inspired by the “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” TV show. Instructions for this craft project include materials that can be found either around the home or at your local art supply store. Invite guests to your party using handmade cards, complete with evidence from a crime scene that they can investigate during the main event.
Materials needed to make a CSI themed party invitation card:
- Black construction paper
- Yellow construction paper
- Miniature cellophane bag
- Crime scene photo
- Green fingerprint sticker or decal
- Black marker
- Doll hair, small skeleton body part or piece of clothing
- Clear tape
- White alphabet stickers
- Green 3D paint pen
- White computer paper
Step 1: Cut your black construction paper into a square shaped card that is 4×6 inches when folded to make one party invitation card, using scissors. Cut out a long strip of yellow construction paper that measures ½ inch in width to make crime scene tape. The length of this yellow construction paper strip will depend on how you want it to be positioned on your party invitations. Cut out a yellow construction paper that matches the width of the black folded card if your crime scene tape will be read horizontally. You can also cut the yellow strips to match the height of the black folded card if you want the crime scene tape to be displayed vertically.
Step 2: Write the words “Crime Scene Do Not Cross” across one side of your yellow strip and then glue it to the front of the black invitation card. Put the doll hair inside your miniature cellophane bag and then attach it to the inner left side of the party invitation card, using tape. The left page on your invitation card will be used to provide guests with a collection of evidence for their investigation at your party. Small toys such as plastic skeleton body parts or used fabrics such as pieces of clothing can be used as a substitute for the doll hair in this CSI party invitation craft. Add the green fingerprint sticker or decal to the same page where your cellophane bag is located.
Step 3: Attach a crime scene photo to the evidence page, using glue. Crime scene photos can be cut out from newspapers or magazines to use on your CSI party invitation cards. You can also attach a photo of one basic scene to the invitation such as a half-eaten piece of birthday cake, as an alternative to images from real-life crime scenes. Apply section headlines for your party information on the inner right side of the invitation card, using white alphabet stickers. Section headlines can include titles such as “Host”, “When”, “Where” and “RSVP”.
Step 4: Draw an an outline around each letter in your section headlines, using a green colored 3D paint pen or glitter glue. Print the party information for each invitation section on a sheet of white paper. Cut out the party information into a group of paper strips and then glue them to your invitation card. Each strip of party information should be placed under it’s coordinating headline. A strip that includes information about the location of your event could be placed under the “Where” section headline.
