The Dallas Cowboys reached a new low last night after getting pounded by the Green Bay Packers 45-7.
I only watched this game until half time before I felt like blowing chow. With the score at 24-0 , I turned off the television and went to sleep. How could this be happening?
My personal opinion is this: Living in Dallas, I am exposed to the constant media exposure of the Cowboys─it is non-stop. During the off season, all I heard was about how the Cowboys could be the first home team to host a Super Bowl in their new one billion dollar stadium. The players apparently bought in, but they forgot one thing: You have to play the games in the regular season and win them in order to get there.
Who is to be blamed for this? For one, the coaching staff has to be held accountable. This team is not prepared to beat anyone. Penalties abound, special teams stink, and missed assignments are everywhere; but let’s not just jump the coaches. The players are highly paid athletes that should be held accountable for their own sloppy play. This whole situation is unacceptable.
What’s the solution? Head Coach Wade Phillips needs to go right now. I don’t buy into this “player’s coach” nansy-pansy. These are highly paid prima donnas who need their butts kicked when they don’t play. The Cowboys screwed up when they didn’t hire Mike Shanahan during the off season (he wouldn’t put up with this bull s…). Let’s go a step farther. Why won’t the Cowboys hire a coach like Shanahan? Simple: Jerry Jones; he is anathema to the system. Jones isn’t going to hire a coach that will tell him to stuff it.
Where do the Cowboys go from here? I would go for draft picks for next year. As far as the coaching dilemma goes I have no answer. This is a real “catch 22.”
