The Alzheimer’s Association Dallas Memory walk is presented this year by Senior Care Centers. The Alzheimer’s Association website says this about the walk, “The Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk® is our national signature event and brings together family, friends, caregivers and concerned community members – who all want to make a difference. Since 1989, Memory Walk has raised more than $60 million to help those battling Alzheimer’s disease. Learn more about Memory Walk.” According to the website, every 70 seconds someone develops Alzheimer’s and Alzheimer’s is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States.
You can start a team or join one. The Dallas walk is on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the Dallas Zoo, 650 S R L Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75203. Registration begins at 7:00 A.M. and the walk starts at 9:00 A.M.
The walk is three miles or less and all walks are wheelchair/stroller accessible. There will be refreshments, entertainment for the children, and a remembrance wall. The Alzheimer’s event is rain or shine.
There are two other walks for those in other areas. The first is in East Texas on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at LeTourneau University, 2100 South Mobberly, Longview, TX 75602. The other one is for Collin/Denton counties on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Celebration Park, 500 North Malone Road, Allen, TX 75002.
