No grand musical opening to start off “Dancing with the Stars” results show like last week with Santana. Instead, it was the same old, same old format of seasons past. Not only were we treated to some great musical performers, and a special performance from Macy’s Stars of Dance, we got a number of issues from the Monday night show cleared up and out of the way finally. Those had to do with the judge’s comment from Bruno on Michael Bolton’s Jive and the supposed boos aimed at Bristol Palin’s mom, Sarah Palin. However, one obvious celebrity had to go home simply based on his low scores.
Results, Apology and Encore Dance
Just like last season they got right to it with the first set of results. Kyle and Lacey along with Brandy and Maks were the first couples to learn their fates. Obviously Kyle and Lacey were safe for another week and the other couple in jeopardy.
Tom Bergeron brought up the issue of the comment Bruno made to Michael Bolton of him doing the worst jive in 11 seasons. Basically, Bruno was sticking to his feedback and score. There was bickering going on between him and Len, but Len gave Bolton a “4” and he’s scolding Bruno for the “3”. What difference does it make they are extremely low scores. I think the agenda was for Bruno to apologize and take back his comment. That’s not exactly what happened.
Thankfully Len diplomatically segued into all three judges agreeing on the best performance for the Encore Dance. I always love seeing this during most of the results shows. It was none other than their obvious favorite couple, Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer doing the Quickstep.

The Awesome Janelle Monae
When they mentioned she was one of the musical guest stars I was not familiar with her. However, upon seeing the unique hairdo I instantly recognized Jannelle Monae. I saw her doing an interview on television where she talked about James Brown being a huge influence on her.
That was extremely obvious in her performance Tuesday night. She even had on a James Brown-esque type cape. Her music and stage performance are extraordinary to say the least. It’s a blend of the Harlem Cotton Club meets Old School R&B/Soul mixed in with today’s hip hop. I absolutely loved it and was thoroughly entertained much like the studio audience. Her background dancers were incredible.
Boo-gate for Sarah Palin?
All day long on Tuesday the internet was littered with how the boos you heard on the performance show of “Dancing with the Stars” were directed at Sarah Palin who was in the audience. I knew it was as a result of the low scores Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough received. Thankfully, the show’s producers had proof of this happening and showed us the raw footage. Many cynical posters online had thought earlier it was ABC trying to cover this matter up. I’m glad it was finally straightened out once and for all.
More Results and the Rituals by the Pro Dancers
Florence Henderson and Corky Ballas plus Britol “The Pistol” Palin and Mark Ballas were safe. The Situation and Karina Smirnoff were in jeopardy. One of the favorite moments of the results show was learning of the different superstitious rituals by the professional dancers.
You hear about athletes in virtually all sports being this way. It was truly fascinating to learn about socks being in the refrigerator so they’ll stay cold to smelling the dance floor, to using hand sanitizer as an underarm deodorant to eating chocolate cake and chocolate chip cookies. I really liked the latter two rituals the best.
Macy’s Stars of Dance (Rich & Tone – Choreographers)
These choreographers have done routines for Michael Jackson. Now they used aerialists and acrobats. I loved the acrobat you saw on the high pedestal at first who later danced on toe shoes and then went back to her pedestal. It was absolutely fascinating to watch.
Seal Sings His Latest Single
I was very excited to see him perform his latest single “Weight of My Mistakes”, except I was underwhelmed by the song. Lyrically I liked it, but that’s all. His classic songs truly got my attention when I first heard them. This song didn’t grab me unfortunately.
Another Set of Results – Bolton Digs Back at Bruno
Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya along with Margaret Cho and Louis van Amstel were safe and coming back. Michael Bolton and Chelsie Hightower plus Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke were the ones in jeopardy. Brooke Burke interviewed Michael Bolton where he said Bruno’s remarks to him were “inappropriate and disrespectful.” Well, Michael Bolton…welcome to the genre of reality TV competition shows.
The Final Results
I’ll just cut to the chase and say it was more than obvious Michael Bolton was going home based on his low scores. Next week each of the couples must tell a story through their dance choice of the Paso Doble or the Foxtrot. I remember when they did this last season. It should be fun.
