In true “Dancing with the Stars” fashion a lot was crammed into the first one-hour results show of Season 11. Tom Bergeron stated at the beginning Wednesday night’s elimination will be a shocker. It even took the show’s producers by surprise. That meant my prediction on who was going home would probably not happen. Then I started worrying about my favorite couple, Kurtanna – Kurt Warner and Ann Trebunskaya. It could be their final curtain. Not a good way to start off the show for me. One of my favorite classic rock artists, Santana, was one of the musical guests on this opener. It was all good.
Powerful Opening Number with Santana and the Pro Dancers
Finally at long last the show has used music from the man himself, Carlos Santana. For the longest time I have been waiting and waiting till the day the celebrities or pros would dance to his earlier Latin rock hits. The music is absolutely perfect for all the Latin dances.
To my amazement they opened right away with one of the musical guest stars, Santana. He played his awesome song “Oye Como Va”. Several of the pro dancers were on the dance floor while Carlos and the band were singing and playing. The pros did a phenomenal job with this number. The ladies were certainly shaking their sweet tail feathers, the fluffy skirts they wore.
The Four Couples with the Lowest Scores Results
This was the first set of results of the night with David Hasselhoff, The Situation, Michael Bolton and Margaret Cho who all had the lowest scores from the performance show. Michael Bolton, who I thought for sure was going home, was deemed safe. Margaret Cho joined Bolton as the first two returning for next week’s show. The Hoff and The Situation were in jeopardy.
Adam Corolla’s Geography Lesson on the Dances
He’s an alum of “Dancing with the Stars” who likes returning on his famed unicycle. When Adam was on the show in season 6 he actually made an entrance on his unicycle for one of his dances. This time Adam Carolla gave us a geography and dance lesson. We learned what countries originated their specific dances.
U.S.A – Jive
Cuba – Rumba
Brazil – Samba
Vienna – Waltz (from the 16th century)
England – Quickstep
The Band Daughtry Performed
Formerly Chris Daughtry, the frontman of his band, Daughtry was on “American Idol”. I remember he sang this same song on last season’s results show on Idol. He wasn’t my favorite contestant then nor my favorite artist now.
The Four Couples with the Highest Scores Results
Jennifer Grey, Brandy, Kyle Massey and Rick Fox were in the second round results. I liked when Brooke interviewed them all while at the makeup chairs. Rick Fox complained he had never worn so much make-up in his life. Luckily Rick Fox would be back for more make-up now that he’s returning. An absolute no brainer Jennifer Grey was safe. Kyle and Brandy were the ones in jeopardy.
Santana Feat. india.arie
Carlos Santana’s current album, “Guitar Heaven” features guest artists performing hit songs with stellar guitar solos played exquisitely by Santana. India Arie sang the evocative “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” by George Harrison. I truly enjoyed her rendition.
Featurette with the cast meeting each other for the first time
We were treated to a short film on the celebrity cast of Season 11 meeting one another for the first time. A lot of them were excited to meet “Brady Bunch” mom, Florence Henderson. That was remarkable when The Hoff caught a touchdown pass from Kurt Warner. The Situation knew very little about Bristol’s home state of Alaska.
The Four Couples with the Middle Scores Results
Stuck in the middle scores for the third portion of the results had Audrina Patridge and Florence Henderson as safe. Kurt Warner and Bristol Palin were going to have to wait for their own results later. Now I was getting really worried for Kurtanna.
Santana feat. Chris Daughtry
Chris Daughtry is also featured on “Guitar Heaven with Santana. They performed the song “Photograph” by Def Leppard. I was truly over the moon seeing Santana on “Dancing with the Stars”. An unusual moment came Tom Bergeron talked briefly to the two. Daughtry said he is supporting Michael Bolton while Santana is for Kurt Warner.
The Final Results
Brandy and Bristol Palin were the first to be safe. Carlos Santana’s support paid off, because Kurt Warner was finally safe along with The Situation. The two left were not necessarily in the bottom two, but one was about to go home. I could not believe it was The Hoff. His performance of the Cha Ca Cha wasn’t great, but the voters must of felt there was not any potential. Next week’s dances are the Jive and Quickstep with only eleven dancers left.
