For the second week in a row, Jennifer Grey and dance partner Derek Hough earned the top score of 24 points on ‘Dancing With the Stars.’ The couple looked fantastic dancing the jive, and while it’s a bit early to hand out 10s, I think they could easily have collected 27 points.
“You’re like this sexy energizing bunny,” Judge Carrie Ann Inaba said. Len Goodman called it “colorful,” while BrunoTonioli described the performance as “wicked.” Each judge flashed the 8 card.
Sarah Palin watched from the audience as daughter Bristol Palin and dance partner Mark Ballis, did the quick step. Bristol wore a decidedly modest dress, but showed she can still move her hips. Len, who gave the pair an 8, described the dance as lovely and said Bristol was improving. This was reflected in her score of 22 compared to 18 during the first week of DWTS.
There was some disappointment for Brandy and dance partner Maks Chmerkovskiy, whose score of 21 was two points lower than the 23 they got last week. Maybe the cutie pie look doesn’t fit Brandy; she wore thigh high stockings, a plaid school girlish skirt and sported two pony tails. Maks was also clad in plaid, along with suspenders, bow tie and white shirt.
“This week you took a step back,” said Len, while Carrie Ann called the routine “sloppy.” Bruno told Brandy that “okay” from her was not good enough. Brandy wants so bad to be good, I bet she will be dancing in her sleep.
Brady Bunch mom Florence Henderson, who would like for everyone to forget about her age, danced the quick step in a long, elegant gown. “Your age has no bearing on how I feel, I judge the dancing,” said Lenny. “On that performance, I’ll see you next week.” That performance was worth 19 points.
Michael Bolton just wasn’t born to dance. He looked nice dressed all in black when he danced the jive with partner Chelsie Hightower, but he can’t relax. “You did it all very, very badly,” said Bruno, who described the performance as the “worst jive” he’d seen in eleven seasons of ‘Dancing With the Stars.’
This prompted an admonishment from Len who told Bruno he should keep some things to himself. Bottom line, the score was 12, worse than last week’s score of 15.
Kyle Massey just gets cuter and cuter, but the boy can dance. Bruno said he was “a powerhouse of boundless energy,” and Carrie Ann said she loved to watch him dance. I agree, Carrie Ann, Kyle does light up the stage with his smile and energy. His performance earned him 22 points.
Margaret Cho proved she can dance after all, which is what she should have done last week. She and partner Louis van Amstel danced a graceful and sweet jive. Although Carrie Ann said her facial expressions were “over the top,” Len praised Cho for listening and learning from the critiques the judges gave her the week before. She received 18 points.
Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino just can’t catch up. Prior to week 1 of DWTS, he had only five days of practice, much less than the other dancers had. Len said his quick step with partner Karina Smirnoff was a series of unfortunate events, but it was still a good job for a “difficult dance.” Score: 18.
Will Audrina Patridge’s dance partner Tony Dovolani really wax his legs? During practice he told Audrina if they didn’t get three 8’s, he would do just that. Carrie Ann said their quick step was fantastic, Len said it was the best performance of the night so far (not all had danced yet) and Bruno liked the light-footed movement. Len and Carrie Ann gave the performance an 8, but Bruno gave it a 7 for 23 points. Tony, get ready to wax!
Kurt Warner and Rick Fox both cut nice figures on the dance floor-but not with each other-Kurt’s partner is Anna Trebunskaya and Rick’s is Cheryl Burke. The athletic guys are long, tall drinks of water, and even though each scored 21 last night, I’m still waiting for them to make me sit up and take notice.
I predict Michael Bolton will be eliminated tonight. There just aren’t enough Michael Bolton fans to save him. Tune in tonight on ABC to watch ‘Dancing With the Stars.’
