Dancing With the Stars is now in its 11th season and what a season it is going to be! I never thought Dancing With the Stars would bring tears to my eyes but when Jennifer Grey broke down in rehearsal remembering Patrick Swayze we all felt her pain.
Last week marked the one year anniversary of the death of Swayze, Grey’s co star in the movie “Dirty Dancing”. Both the anniversary and the choice of music from Dirty Dancing probably contributed to her emotional breakdown during the show’s rehearsals.
Either because of or in spite of the loss Grey felt, she and partner Derek went on to receive the highest score for the night with all three judges awarding the couple 8 points each for a total of 24 points. Judge Goodman told Grey he wanted to see what she could do next week when she performs the jive.
Tied at the other end with fifteen points each is Margaret Cho, Mike ‘The Situation” Sorrentino, and ‘The Hoff’, David Hasselhoff. Cho and partner Louis danced a waltz but tried turning it into a comedy routine, that didn’t go over well with the judges.
The judges also disapproved of Sorrentino’s performance although they did acknowledge he hadn’t had much rehearsal time due to his commitment on Jersey Shores.
Judge Goodman told Hasselhoff and partner Kim, “It’s never too early to panic”, after watching their cha cha. The judges did conclude Hoff was entertaining although there was very little dancing.
The surprise of the evening came from Bristol Palin who did a pretty good job since her only claim to fame is the daughter of Sarah Palin and that she is an unwed mother. While all the other cast members are celebrities by choice Palin has been thrust into the spotlight because she is the daughter of a famous person. I have to give her credit for taking the lemon and turning it into lemonade.
