Jennifer Grey reclaimed the top spot on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Monday night, taking 56 points out of 60. If that number seems different, it’s because dancers received two scores, one for technique and one for performance.
Judge Bruno Tonioli called the performance prime time delight and an incredible job. Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodman were also pleased. Jennifer received 27 points for technique and 29 for performance.
Jennifer and Derek’s Argentine Tango was indeed a pleasure to watch, but not so for Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino’s painful dance of the same name. He did get a good workout, lifting partner Karina several times, and he showed off his impressive abs, but it just wasn’t enough.
“It was consistent–it was bad throughout,” said Len. Bruno called the performance a “terrible mess” and compared it to a jigsaw puzzle that never got put together. Carrie Ann did like his abs, which is probably why she saw “an improvement” and gave him a higher score than Len and Bruno did. Didn’t help much, though, He scored only 28 points out of 60, the lowest score of the night.
Ok, DWTS is in its fourth week and Bristol Palin and Kyle Massey need to step it up, so say the judges. Both started the season giving pleasantly surprising performances which were fine for the first couple of weeks.
Yoo hoo, Bristol Palin, are you in There?
Bristol and dance partner Mark Ballas danced a rumba that was lacking in passion. “I’m still waiting,” said Bruno, adding that “you do a thing, and then you go vacant.” Bristol does have something going on, but Len and Carrie Ann are hankering to see more, and if Bristol wants to stay in the running, she needs to produce. Of course, she was dancing in front of mom Sarah Palin and dad Todd, who watched from the audience, but she needs to look within to pull out some pizzazz.
Kyle Massey Not Sexy?
Sadly, Carrie Ann gave bad news to Kyle. “Your dynamic isn’t really sexual,” she said after he and partner Lacey Schwimmer danced the rumba. The comment would have crushed many a dude and probably came as a surprise to Kyle, because what 19-year-old guy doesn’t think he’s sexy?
Len told Kyle his footwork was better and Bruno said Kyle is a natural, but cautioned that the rumba has to have a continuous flow. When all was said and done, Kyle had 40 points. Hopefully, he will continue to listen to the judges and stay in the running.
Rick Fox and Kurt Warner
I’m still waiting for Rick Fox and Kurt Warner to make an impression on me. The athletes are sexy hunks, but I hope their dancing improves while they still have a chance to show off. If “The Situation” is voted off tonight, there will be more focus on them because somebody will have to go home next week. Kurt scored 34 out of 60, while Rick scored 39 out of 60.
Brandy and Maks: Can’t you Just Get Along?
I’m not sure if Brandy and Maks should have been paired up; they both have strong personalities, and even though they received a highly decent score of 48, they seem bound and determined to butt heads.
Mrs. Brady Gets Risque
Florence Henderson made some folks blush when she and dance “pard” Corky Ballas got a little risqué with the rumba. Len said it was better than he expected. Florence seems to be dancing for the judges more than for herself or the audience, and puts on cutesy (or sexy) faces for them. Her score was 35.
Audrina: Ice Queen vs. Hot and Raunchy
I thought Audrina was doing a pretty good job with Tony and the Argentine Tango, but the judges weren’t blown away. Bruno compared her to an “ice queen” and said she didn’t point her feet, Carrie Ann wanted more performance, and it just wasn’t “hot and raunchy” enough for Len. Still, 46 points is not too shabby.
I predict Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino will be voted off ‘Dancing With the Stars’ tonight, and he may not even care too much.
