In a perfect world, the 8 remaining stars on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars would all have a set in stone TV theme that they are known for during Monday night’s week 5 TV Theme week. So what will the stars dance to on Dancing With the Stars week 5 TV theme week? And what TV shows are these stars known for?
Florence Henderson— The Brady Bunch theme- a no brainer, right? Except she and partner Corky Ballas are down to the wire when it comes to getting clearance for the classic Brady theme song, so we may have to settle for seeing them tango to the theme to….The Addams Family?
Meanwhile,TV themes are not something pro football star Kurt Warner is known for. While he’s slated to quickstep with partner Anna Trebunskaya to the theme to the 1960’s sitcom Bewitched, wouldn’t the Monday Night Football theme be better suited for him?
And why are Brandy and Maks Chmerkovskiy quickstepping to “I’ll Be There for You” (the theme to Friends)? Didn’t Brandy star in her own show, Moesha?
Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke are supposedly dancing to the theme to Hill Street Blues. Being a former NBA star, Fox himself is not known for a specific TV show. So why not take a cue from ex-wife Vanessa Williams, who has started in several great TV shows? A tango to Ugly Betty? A jive to Desperate Housewives? Or he could be really obnoxious and waltz to “Here She Is, Miss America”. Anything but Hill Street Blues, which has nothing to do with anything!
Disney star Kyle Massey and partner Lacey Schwimmer are said to be doing a foxtrot to the theme to Charlie’s Angels. While it’s a great theme song, I can’t picture it. Who will Massey play-the unseen Charlie? Massey stars in the Disney series Fish Hooks, which has a completely rah-rah theme song. It would be young and fun-like him (although Judge Len Goodman would hate it!). But Charlie’s Angels? Massey and Schwimmer didn’t even know who the rock group The Eagles were a few weeks ago, so Charlie’s Angels is clearly before their time.
Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough are rumored to be dancing to a Frank Sinatra song, most likely “Love and Marriage”, which is the theme to Married With Children. And while Grey is best known for her roles in big screen movies like Dirty Dancing and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, she did in fact star in her own TV series back in 1999. In the short-lived ‘It’s Like…You Know” , Grey played herself. Unfortunately the theme song is as unmemorable as the show itself, so the Sinatra tune is probably better in this case. Although Grey did guests star in an episode of Friends back in 1995, so maybe she should have that theme song instead of Brandy!
One star who will definitely be dancing to her real life TV theme? MTV star Audrina Patridge, who blogged to People that her rumba with partner Tony Dovolani to The Hills theme, Natasha Bedingfield’s “Unwritten” will be like “making love on the dance floor”. Ack! Will it be as graphic a Florence and Corky’s raunchy rumba last week?
Finally, Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas are not known for any TV themes whatsoever. But Bristol actually appeared as herself in an episode of “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” earlier this year and that theme song is definitely jive-worthy!
I say if you’re a star, dance to a TV show that you starred in! And then thank your lucky stars that The Situation went home last week, because the Jersey Shore “theme”- a bunch of expletives spliced with LMFAO’s ‘Get Crazy” – is the worst TV theme ever!
You can catch the Dancing With the Stars Week 5 TV Theme Week tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
