The “Dancing With the Stars” week 9 semi-finals begin tonight on ABC. The Nov. 15 “Dancing With the Stars” results will help decide the ninth couple going home this week, and also place the top three couples into the finals next week. Season 11 is about to come to an end, and there are just four couples left competing for the much-sought-after mirror ball trophy. Monday we will all find out if Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas have what it takes to make it into the final week of the show, or if the semi-finals are going to provide viewers with a new surprise.
So far this season, eight couples have been sent home by the judges and audience. They are weighted equally each week, with the judges’ scores counting for one half of the scores, and then the audience votes counting for the other half. What has happened a number of times is that the audience has voted to keep lower-scoring couples while providing quite a few surprise eliminations as well. The last two weeks have had Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas as the lowest-scoring couple, but their fans at home have saved them each time. Instead, Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke, then Kurt Warner and Anna Trebunskaya, were sent home.
Now the final four couples will perform for the judges on the Nov. 15 episode of the show, and a ninth couple will be eliminated from the show on Tuesday night. This will also be the first week where the “DWTS Performance Show” will be cut down to just 90 minutes, as they will remove a bunch of the filler that has extended the show over the last few weeks. It will allow more focus on the final four couples as well, giving fans one last chance to decide which three of them will be heading on to the finals that begin on the Nov. 22 episode.
The favorites of the season appear to be celebrities Jennifer Grey and Brandy, at least according to the judges. Those are the two who appear at the top of the leaderboard every week, and they are easily the favorites to win the show this season. Kyle Massey has been coming on strong these past few weeks, though, and nobody wants to underestimate how much the audience support for Bristol Palin could help her in the final two weeks. It is definitely going to be interesting to see how it all plays out, and we find out how the judges feel about the final four at 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15.
