Dancing With the Stars opened the 200th show with stars, stars, and more stars! A glamorous, mega-screened, lights and sparkles dance floor cast the stage for professional dancers from all eleven seasons to dance to the first song from the first episode, which was “Crazy In Love.” A flashback from past Dancing With the Stars seasons welcomed such stars as Lance Bass, Erin Andrews, Jane Seymour, Donnie Osmond, Lisa Rinna, and Ty Murray, just to name a few.
Round 1 – Team Dances
Team captains were Kristi Yamaguchi and Apolo Ohno. Team Kristi Yamaguchi consisted of Rick Fox and Cheryl, Kyle Massey and Lacey, Bristol Palin and Mark. Team Apolo was represented by Jennifer Grey and Derek, Kurt Warner and Anna, Brandy and Maks.
Team Kristi danced the cha cha cha. There were lots of sparkles in both the ladies and guys costumes, lots of booties shakin’ and lots of shoulders poppin’ during this dance. Everybody was having fun, and Bristol Palin even loosened up even a wee bit more! They got a team score of 24 which will be added to their individual scores.
Team Apolo danced a cha cha cha as well, taking their share of shakin’ it all over the dance floor. Their dance wasn’t as fun to watch and didn’t flow like Team Kristi’s dance choreography. Jennifer Grey was trying her hardest but was apparent that she is the most worn out of the group, trying to put it on a good face. Their team score was 27.
Round 2 – Individual Dances
These were judged by the dancer who made it famous in their season on Dancing With the Stars. First up was Mel B, who looked amazing. On a historical note for Dancing With the Stars, she initiated the Tom Bergeron butt pinches, which are now a tradition on the show, much to Tom’s dismay. Kyle Massey and Lacey performed the dance that Mel B and Maks originally did. Kyle did his best to capture Maks’ essence, though it could possibly never come across 100% – ever. Sorry Kyle! He did do a good job and was quite intense, getting rave reviews from all of the judges.
Kurt Wanner and Anna danced next, being judged by Emmitt Smith (who just got inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame). Emmitt looked quite dashing and yet was so humble. Kurt was glad to be doing a dance that another former pro-football player had performed. Kurt seemed quite confident and was stronger this week.
The next guest judge was Kelly Osbourne who was transformed on Dancing With the Stars, physically as well as emotionally. Kelly has turned into such a beautiful, well-spoken young lady. She judged Bristol Palin and Mark, who has made it surprisingly far in the competition. Bristol did look beautiful in her pale pink flowing gown and was genuinely happy during the dance it seemed.
Helio Castroneves, the youngest driver to win the Indy 500 (which he’s done three times), was the guest judge for Rick Fox and Sheryl. Rick loosened up, threw in tons of facial expressions and had a great time with the dance.
Gilles Marini, who looks as tall, dark and handsome as ever, was the guest judge for Brandy. Sexy, sexy! Brandy and Maks definitely had chemistry in their performance, with Brandy really getting into character. They did a fantastic job!
Drew Lachey was last up to judge Jennifer Grey and Derek. Jennifer is frustrated with her body and it’s not reacting the way she wants it to, but she is hurting. But oh, she danced her heart out and she was so emotional during the judge’s highly supportive comments. To top it off she ran over and gave her daughter and husband quick hugs and kisses – she is a doll.
At the end of the night there was a tie between Brandy and Maks, and Jennifer Grey and Derek. Tomorrow night should be an exciting conclusion…
