Dancing with the Stars is such a fun show to watch. Seeing well-known celebrities in a scary situation giving it their all and having fun doing it is priceless entertainment. Our host Tom Bergeron does an excellent job of keeping up the suspense without being offensive.
I love Jennifer Grey and am so happy she came in first in this week’s competition. It was my thought exactly. The daughter of Broadway star Joel Grey (Cabaret) and a dancer in her own right – how can we forget her in Dirty Dancing with the late Patrick Swayze? At this point I hope she wins it all.
However, Florence Henderson is also one of my favorite people. I give her so much credit at her age – I believe she said she is 76 years old – to come on with the possibility of making a fool of herself. Of course, she didn’t. She did a splendid job.
I was so happy for Bristol Palin. She certainly looked like a professional to me. She has overcome a great deal of hardship and the audience was with her every minute. Good for you, Bristol.
Margaret Cho has brought so much laughter into the world with her stand-up routines. It seems I first watched her on stage many, many years ago. I am glad she will be coming back next week for another try. I love to see the effort of those who follow another career path to try something new and who look as if they are enjoying it immensely.
I am not too familiar with the other contestants. I know of Brandy but have not heard her perform in the past. She certainly wore her heart on her sleeve in showing how nervous she was and admitting she wanted so badly to come back next week. I’m glad she made it.
As for the first dancer to be eliminated, I think the audience got it right this time. David Hasselhoff did not come across as a smooth and comfortable contestant. Again, I admire someone of his age and stature to risk the embarrassment that did come to him. However, it appears that he has overcome some of his blatant faults and is putting on a proud front. His daughters were in the audience and were interviewed about his efforts. They seemed so proud of their dad. He has much to be thankful for.
I was thrilled that Chris Daughtry made a guest appearance along with Santana. Chris, who calls his band Daughtry, was the fourth place finisher on American Idol in 2006. He was always one of my favorites. He has had greater success than some of the Idols who finished in first or second place.
I cannot comment on the male contestants because I am not familiar with most of them. I believe two of them are professional athletes, Kurt and Rick, and as such they are light on their feet and are used to moving their bodies in a graceful fashion.
I look forward to next week’s competition and wish all of the contestants the best. They are so much fun to watch.
