He may have come in second to David Cook in Season 7 of American Idol, but David Archuleta is far outdistancing Cook in the number of albums produced. Not only did Archuleta beat Cook to the punch in releasing his first album (Archuleta released his self-titled debut album a week ahead of the winner), the now 19-year-old released a holiday album last October and, according to “Idol Chatter,” has dropped album No. 3, “The Other Side Of Down.”
The cherubic-cheeked heartthrob was among American Idol‘s all-time most popular performers, and many believed he would win the competition in Season 7. In the end, though, rocker David Cook took the title. Still, David Archuleta had built a solid fan base and has managed to keep it since leaving American Idol. Archuleta took home two Teen Choice Awards in 2008, one of which was for Most Fanatic Fans. He won three more in 2009: for Music: Love Song (“Crush”), Music Tour (with Demi Lovato), and Breakout Artist. Although he was nominated for Most Fanatic Fans again in 2010, he lost that award to Justin Bieber. However, he won his sixth Teen Choice Award for Choice American Idol Alum.
In 2009, Archuleta won the ALMA (American Latino Media Arts) Rising Star Award.
All those fans will no doubt boost his total U. S. album sales well over one million soon. His debut album has topped 750,000 in sales thus far.
The album’s first single, “Something ‘Bout You,” has become another Billboard hit. “The Other Side Of Down” was made available for preview streaming on Sept. 27 and, according to LetsSingIt.com, was getting favorable reviews even before its release.
The new album shows more of David Archuleta, the songwriter, than did his first effort. Of the album’s 12 tracks, 10 were co-written by the young singer himself, as opposed to just two songs that he wrote on his debut album (not counting bonus tracks for other editions).
The new album, “The Other Side Of Down,” hit stores and was available for download Tuesday, Oct. 5.
As for David Cook’s new album. It is rumored that he is hard at work on it…
The first song, “Something ‘Bout Love,” from Archuleta’s third album was also co-written by the American Idol alumnus. The video follows.
