There have always been legends about Cemeteries. The main two are never go out at night or mock the dead. So next time you think it’s a good idea to see how long you can last at night, remember the dead don’t like to be bothered. During the day it’s peaceful, nobody knows why, maybe because when night comes that’s when evil is around. Either way, cemeteries are great mysteries.
Ghosts were something that David knew about, he was a paranormal expert. Not by choice though, he was born with that ability to see spirits. The last couple of weeks had been hard for him, he lost his girlfriend Beth. He missed her and tonight he was going to try to find her. He was going to travel to the spirit world. All it took was to find her grave and call her. If she came to him, he could see her.
David took a taxi to the local cemetery, where Beth was buried. He just wanted to say goodbye to her once again, and maybe tell her how much she actually mattered. When she died, he was in London. She had walked to the store, and got hit by a man who ran his car on the sidewalk while he escaped from the police. It was a hit and run that could have been avoided.
He pushed open the gate, his hands felt like ice. He was nervous, because he had never gone out to find a ghost, they always found him. He never spoke to one either, he just saw them pass. It was always in a new house or a friend’s house. But now it was for him, he would use his gift to find his lost love.
He found and saw her grave. Oh god, he held back the tears, and spoke out loud, “Beth, Hi, remember when I told you about how I can see the dead, if you’re scared I can help you. I love you Beth, you know, please come to see me.” He begged just to feel her again or see her. He was a desperate lover.
The wind blew and then the sun was gone and dark clouds rolled in. He felt goose bumps go down his backbone. The cemetery gates closed and night had fallen. David couldn’t believe how fast the night came by, he remembered he left late. The taxi was gone; the guy must have not wanted to wait. That kind of pissed him off. This place kind of gave him the creeps and he was used of the dead.
He went by the gates and tried to open them, he couldn’t. Seriously he thought what the hell. They opened before. To his dismay he turned around and weird things had started to happen. A mist was all around the graves, it was thick fog. He rolled his eyes and sat back against the only tree in the place. He could just jump the gate, it made sense. David sat up again and started to climb the gate, but he felt a hand on his leg. “Beth.” He screamed out and turned. When he turned to his dismay he saw spirits all around the place, their faces in grimaces.
“Beth.” He said and tried to look for her.
He felt hands around him, “Stop!” He shouted.
A woman in 18 Century period clothing spoke her voice, “Your disturbed the dead.” Her face was haggard and did not look like she was very youthful even in her day. She was paler than anything and actually glided.
“I just want to see my girlfriend. I can see spirits.”
A man who looked like he was from the 1920s spoke, “We don’t take to kindly to people, all we want his rest. Bad enough were afraid to go to hell”
“I understand that, I’ll leave.”
‘Nobody leaves alive mister, it’s the law of the dead.”
“Seriously, you’re going to kill me. I’m a paranormal expert, I know everything about ghosts.”
“Everything?” The woman spoke.
“Then you must know that only the dead who come back are murderers or suicidal victims.”
David shook his head and tried to make them disappear. “Leave. That’s not true the good do come back” He repeated over and over again. He jumped the gate but landed backwards because a hand grabbed his ankle, he broke his neck.
The next day:
“You know Charlie, I should really put a sign out here, that states never come here at night.” The caretaker said to his number one gravedigger.
“People won’t believe, the police don’t even believe us. He’s our seventh victim too. People should know never go to a cemetery at night.”
“You know who this kid was, that’s David Green. You know he was with that Beth girl. I feel bad for him, never got to say goodbye too her.”
“You mean that Beth, we should really move her tombstone out of here, her folks didn’t want her to be buried here, can you believe that.? They schedule it here and then leave.”
The caretaker laughed, “Well Charlie nobody wants to bury their own in this wretched cemetery.”
‘Your right, the history here is pretty brutal. So many buried here that did some crimes, died from a violent death, or killed themselves. No wonder why it was named the Devil’s Playground.
“Let’s bury him; Officer Lex said that he’s tired of finding bodies here. I guess nobody will miss him. You know he just moved here.”
Both men shrugged and Charlie got the shovel.
