The Decker Creek Bed and Breakfast in Manor, Texas is a wonderful dog-friendly getaway northeast of Austin. They have two dog-friendly cabins and over 40 acres of land for dogs to roam free. Even the breakfast is dog friendly. Pat and Byron Rathbun and their two dogs, Shiva and Beau, invite guests to their home so they can experience the most wonderful home-cooked meal. Pat really outdoes herself each morning so guests will have a full belly to enjoy the day; and dietary restrictions aren’t a problem either. Pat can even whip up a culinary delight for vegans. And breakfast isn’t just a meal, it’s an experience that makes you feel like you arrived as a guest and left as a part of the Rathbun family.
I stayed in cabin two also known as the Treehouse with my English cocker spaniel, Euri. I loved the screened-in porch (which had a swing, two chairs, boots, umbrellas, insect repellent, a bin for recycling, and a table), the fenced yard, and the interior which was very comfortable. The cabins at the Decker Creek Bed and Breakfast in Manor, TX are well equipped with a miniature kitchen (that had everything needed if you wanted to cook or heat a meal) and the Rathbuns even provide freshly baked chocolate chip cookies (for the humans) and homemade biscuits (for the dogs). In fact, they provide a plethora of amenities for dogs like blankets, dog bowls, a placemat, toys, and even a pooper scooper. Dog beds and crates are available upon request.
The grounds have a creek that can be crossed so guests can access the remainder of the property which has walking paths and sparse woods. There were lots of large spider webs on the trails but even though I have acrophobia, I managed okay because I mostly saw webs, not spiders. There are lots of insects in the area as well as chameleons and birds. Decker Creek Bed and Breakfast in Manor, Texas has an agility course at the front of their property so if you want to see if your dog has what it takes to do agility or practice what he already knows, guests are free to use the equipment.
And if it rains during your stay, you won’t be bored because the Decker Creek Bed and Breakfast in Manor, Texas has a plethora of videos, books, magazines and games. There is a relaxing lounge chair and ottoman as well as a futon-style couch in the living area – both of which were very comfortable. There is a small dining room table that can accommodate four people and is conveniently located next to the kitchen area. For me, the best part of the kitchen was the variety of tea bags and microwavable popcorn.
The bed was very comfortable and there was a variety of pillows from which to choose (e.g. foam). The bathroom had homemade soap and body lotion from the Bloor House. They even had all natural insect repellent and fragrance from the Bloor House which were both effective and fragrant. The bathroom had a heater so you don’t have to worry about being cold when you step out of the shower. Slippers and robes were provided as well as was an iron and hair dryer. Pat and Byron Rathbun have truly thought of everything to make guests comfortable at the Decker Creek Bed and Breakfast in Manor, Texas including shampoo and conditioner for dogs, and a hose to wash off dirty paws.
So what’s the downside? If you have a long-haired dog like an English cocker spaniel, they’re likely to pick up burrs but other than that, the Decker Creek Bed and Breakfast in Manor, TX is just about perfect and highly recommended.
