When we finished the remodel of our master bathroom, my husband really wanted to add some type of brightly colored flower arrangement to give the room some “pop”. The tile that surrounds our over-sized soaking tub is quite large, and there is one section that would allow us to use as a platform for such a display.
One day when we were shopping at our local Pier 1 Imports store for wall decorations, we found a large selection of flowers, vases, and decorating rocks. The rocks came in small plastic bags with drawstring closures, and they were available in two different colors.
The “Green Stone Mix” appealed to me because although there were stones in shades of green in the bag, there were also many stones that had a gray colored tinge to them. Gray is the color of our tile, so I thought they would blend nicely.
We purchased a tall, clear glass vase and gently dumped the Green Stone Mix into the bottom, being careful not to scratch the vase. I originally thought that we were going to need two bags of these stones, but one was plenty – they went a lot further than I expected. The tag on my bag states that it contains 26 ounces, and I did notice a discrepancy between this and what the Pier 1 Imports website has listed.
The light sage green and stone gray colors blend together perfectly, and provide a perfect support system for the long stemmed artificial flowers that we placed into this vase. I would consider these similar to river rock, they are small, averaging about 1/2″ – 3/4″ in length. They can be used to create not only flower arrangements through a vase, but any kind of centerpieces. You could use them to make a candlescape or top off the planters in your home that contain real flowers or plants.
Pier 1 Imports Green Stone Mix are very smooth small rocks, with a very polished look to them. We could add more of these to our vase, and I may end up going back to the store to purchase another bag, but one 26 ounce sized bag is enough to provide support for these stems. I have to be careful to place the stems inside the stones, if they end up on the outside (along the edge of the glass vase) it really does not look nearly as nice.
If you like the natural look, and are into designing and decorating with silk flowers, you may want to explore the added dimension of the Pier 1 Imports Green Stone Mix.
