For decorators on a budget or living in a rental property where they are unable to make major changes to the walls by painting, printed scrapbook papers are an inexpensive and creative alternative. Printed scrapbook papers can be used to add style and personality to your walls temporarily, and can truly make your home stand out. Here are several different ways you can incorporate printed papers into your wall decor.
Printed papers can easily be used as “wallpaper” in your home without causing the damage that normal wallpaper tends to. Choose a print that is seamless along the edges so that each piece of paper flows well together and tape the pages to your walls using high-quality tape. This look is great on accent walls, and will create a bold look that stands out from the rest of your walls. If you do not want to cover an entire wall in your home with printed scrapbook paper, you can simply tape the pages along the top edge of your wall that meets the ceiling for a unique, bordered look.
Shadowboxes are one of my personal favorites for wall decorations, and are very easy to work with to make your home unique. Purchase a plain wooden shadowbox from a craft store and line the inside of it with a printed scrapbook paper that matches the color scheme and theme of the rest of your decor. Then, add photographs or three-dimensional embellishments on top of the paper. Shadowboxes can be hung on your walls like a normal picture frame, but have a more unique and decorative look that will make your home more inviting.
Ornamental Framed Papers
If you find a printed scrapbook paper that has unique images on it, such as storybook characters or birds, you can cut out the images and frame them to make your own one-of-a-kind wall art. Buy several frames that are the same color and shape, and fill each with a different image that falls under the same theme. You can mix and match different scrapbook papers that coordinate well together or simple cut out different sections of the same scrapbook paper and add each to a different frame. Having three to five different frames clustered together will create a very feminine, elegant look on your walls and brighten up your home.
If you have old wooden furniture that is in major need of a makeover, printed scrapbook papers are a great way to transform your boring furniture into a unique work of art to display in your home. Use Mod Podge to adhere the papers over the surface of the wood, and then apply multiple coats of Mod Podge on top of the papers to permanently seal them to the furniture. Make sure you allow each coat of Mod Podge to dry completely before applying the next.
