Brooklyn has been lauded as the ‘new Manhattan’ but it’s more like Brooklyn is the same place it’s always been. Manhattan is now just starting to notice. Like the Manhattan design firm Front. They have been in their home at Varick Street for eight years and later on this month they’re making the move to a new space and a new view in DUMBO, according to Crain’s New York (1).
Partner from Front Marc Simmons spells it out fairly succinctly. “At this moment, most of our work is national and international so we no longer felt that a Manhattan presence was necessary. For us it was (about) the quality of the space and the view.”
Maybe the only thing better than being in Manhattan is getting to look at Manhattan all day. Front is helping out French architect “Jean Nouvel on the design of the Brooklyn waterfront pavilion that will enclose,” the legendary piece Jane’s Carousel. The pavilion and Jane’s Carousel are scheduled to go live in summer 2011 at Brooklyn Bridge Park.
