Did Miss Philippines’ bizarre answer cost her the Miss Universe title?
Some say it is so. Once considered to be the frontrunner in the competition, Miss Philippines, Venus Raj, has left us wondering. After a great run in both the swimsuit and evening gown portions of the competition, her strange answer to a simple question dropped her down to the fourth runner up.
When celebrity judge William Baldwin asked her what was the biggest mistake she ever made, and what did she do to remedy the situation, she choked. Her bizarre reply: ” In my 22 years of existence, there is nothing major, major problem I’ve done because I am confident in my family and the love they are giving to me.”
Unfortunately for her, her nerves and the excitement got the best of her, and her answer just wasn’t good enough for the judges.
But was her response as bad as some of the horrible answers of the past?
What about the response from Sanja Papic, Miss Serbia, at the 2003 Miss Universe? Well, you certainly can’t say her response was any better. She was asked, ” If you could be fire or water, which one would you be, and why.”
To which she responded, “I am a human being, and I don’t know how it is to be fire or water, and for that reason I don’t really have an answer to that question. I am a human being, a girl that has emotion that fire and water doesn’t have.”
However, Papic has managed to move on with her life, and is currently working as a model as the promotional face of Zlatibor Voda, and has also done several TV commercials, including one for Lendeni Caj. It seems she hasn’t done too badly in her endeavors. But the real question we want an answer to is could she be doing bigger and better things, had she come up with a better answer in the 2003 Miss Universe Pageant?
Or what about the um…um.. response from Jeanie Anderson at the Miss Philippines Pageant in 2001. Her question was “Would you rather be beautiful but not too smart, or would you rather be smart and not too beautiful?”
Unfortunately for her, honesty wasn’t the best policy, neither were the “um…um…ums.” So where is she now? Well, we don’t know; she has managed to stay on the down-low for the last 9 1/2 years. So naturally we have to assume that losing that title cost her a great deal of success.
So, what does the future hold for Venus Raj? Could her stumble during the Q & A portion of the 2010 pageant cause a “stumble” in her successful future?
Well, it’s doubtful. With the upbringing and childhood that Raj endured, it is hard to believe she has made it as far as she has. Besides, being a well-educated beauty queen, she is a very determined woman and an inspiration to women world-wide. With that said, don’t think one Q & A session will be the end of her career. This is definitely not the last we will see of the 22-year-old beauty.
