Sunnyvale CA is a well known city world wide, especially in the tech world. Ever watch the movie War Games?
I had dinner with a friend who lives in London now, but was a Sunnyvale resident a few years back. He said one of the most interesting things he hears when he works and lives overseas is, how many individuals he speaks to have actually heard of this 22 square mile city that is nudged between San Jose and San Francisco. What’s even better is, because its so widely popular in the tech industry, there have been many flourishing businesses in the area that cater not only to the locals, but to the business people alike.
Whether you are craving the huge chains like Burger King, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, KFC you can find those literally within 3 blocks of each other right off of Mathilda (which cuts through the middle of Sunnyvale and connects HWY 101 to 280). One of the more interesting eating spots is Historic Murphy Ave. It is a quaint, 1 semi-long block filled with eateries, coffee shops and bars. Meditterrainan , Italian, Japanese, Vietnamese, Middle Eastern, Chinese, just to name a few of the genre’s covered. There are also a few bars for happy hour and even a night club on the weekends! Whats best about this strip is, the majority of the restaurants are small business owners, so you don’t get that overwhelmed chain establishment feel to the strip. But if that is what you feel more in tuned with, venture a few blocks “east” or north as they call it, and you will hit ever famous El Camino Real. Here you will find everything else. A smattering of Mexican, Chinese, Indian resturants and new establishments opening such as Panera bread, Pinkberry, Rubios, to complement the already establish chains such as IN-n-out, Panda Express, PF Changs, Starbucks, Petes, Arby’s, Fresh Choice, Pasta Market, you get the picture.
We never are short on places to eat, shop while residing in Sunnyvale, or as the Londoners call it “Sunny Valley.” There are many little parks scattered throughout the city. I see many schools in the area that get good reviews. I ride my bike on the street and feel safe not getting annihilated by an automobile since most streets are wide and have sufficient bike lanes and bike triggers at signal lights. All in all, I personally get a safe feeling living and hanging out here. It’s quiet, peaceful, the weather is fantastic, and most of all it’s my home.
