This is week five and the colonists are going on expeditions outside their safe area. When we left last week’s episode Becka had wandered off in search of food and was abducted by the same group who the colonists invaded last week looking for tools.
They did not hear her screams because they were using power tools at the time. The abductors left a note to the effect that they have the girl and want medical supplies and gas. Do not try anything stupid because they are heavily armed and told them where to place the items within twenty-four hours.
The colonists had already set a plan in place to never go off their compound alone or unarmed. Becka broke the rules and the colony is paying dearly for it. This is a tough reminder that they cannot let their guard down.
When Becka was taken they put a hood over her head and they put her in a jail cell and removed the hood after she was locked in. When she was gone for twelve hours, the colonists worked feverishly on the windmill. Their emotions were rechanneled into work. Reno came down from the roof after inspecting the pole for the windmill and sliced his elbow open and it was a deep cut with a lot of blood. They bandaged him up and he continued working, there are no sick days in the colony. They used all parts they could salvage from bicycles and any vehicles to run the gears of the windmill. They found copper piping in a pizzeria and used it for the frame to hold the slats for the windmill.
The colonists left the gas and medical supplies exactly where they kidnappers demanded. From the safety of their house the colonists saw a truck pull up and Becka was in the back. The kidnappers checked out the gas and medical supplies and then demanded to talk to someone. They now demanded canned goods; as much as the colonists could give them.
They brought five cans and the kidnappers still wanted more. They came up with a total of seven cans and two packages of tuna fish and swore that they had no more food. They screamed obscenities and laughed as they drove away and said that they would be back.
Becka was very mad that the colony gave up so much for her. She was angry that they had no safety and that these invaders could just take her and demand whatever they wanted. Becka had to be quarantined for twelve hours before returning to the fold.
While Becka was in quarantine, she talked to Reno about how unhappy she was that all they did was look forward to starving each day and now they lost more food because of her.
A lot of hope is going into the windmill working. The final part was retrieved from the wreck of the small plane; the rudder will keep the windmill in the direction of the wind to harness the energy to charge their battery packs. Their hard work paid off and the windmill was working. But will it attract more invaders?
