I could never imagine working the night shift. I have always worked days, allowing me to have my nights and weekends at home. I’ve been lucky I guess in that I’ve never had to do the night shift. Working a 9-5 job, married, and raising a daughter, I was lucky. HERE is my big career change.
Our daughter Angela the night shift worker
Unlike her boring 9-5 Mother she lives on the edge, fearing no danger throwing caution to the wind. She’s fun and enjoys most of life’s experiences. She’s a people-person, loves to be friendly, interactive and helpful. She is very attractive and draws the attention of others not only by her beauty, but her outgoing personality. She is single, living at home and also going to school when she can. I get a lot of the same reaction when I tell people what she does for a living, “what a fun job, boy if I was young again I’d do something fun like that.”
Casino Dealer Insights
Angela why did you pick this job?
“My first job after getting out of the Army was working in a card room as a cashier. My friends were some of the dealers in the card room and told me I should be a dealer so I went to a Casino College in Folsom for only 2 weeks and learned about a new casino, Red Hawk, in Shingle Springs. My Casino College Teacher’s, husband worked at Red Hawk. I knew Red Hawk was doing auditions for dealers so I took my chances and introduced myself assertively, without having an appointment- that’s the way you do things. I got the job.
What’s your favorite game?
“…Well craps, but I never get to do it. I took an 10 week course to learn it. Pitch Black is also my favorite it’s also known as single or double deck black jack. Instead of drawing out of a shoe and laying them out in front of the player, I pitch or flick the 1st 2 cards to the player which is a required skill- this skill took me about a year to master and get fluid, to become fluid at the art-it’s an art.”
Do you want to be a boss someday?
“I do want to be a supervisor one day and move up the chain of command, (that’s the military talking.)
What do you love about the job?
“That’s a broad question, the people, the live bands, the live bands are my favorite- I love music and I love the atmosphere- it’s not boring you get to use your artistic license. I’m an entertainer as well as a dealer.
What do you hate about the job?
“I hate being a part of some one’s gambling addiction. That and just being a part of their problem. I feel mad because I can’t tell them how I feel bad for them. On the other hand I’m happy for the winner and I like the rewards, tokes.”
What is a valued experience?
” The whole thing is valued- I started by just knowing 1 game and now I know 11 games, Black Jack shoe, Black Jack pitch, Baccarat, Pai Gow, Craps, and Carnival Games: 4 card Poker, 3 card Poker, World Poker Tour (WPT), Let it ride, Ultimate Texas Holdem’, and Switch Black Jack. Putting myself out there I’m rewarded knowing that I overcame my fears. My first day on the job was worse than Basic Training in the Army, and it was my Birthday.”
What was the worst experience?
“My first day on the job, that and probably my first time dealing craps, the game was jammed up, busy.”
“A busy Saturday night and older Asian woman was walking through the crowd brushing her teeth with her finger. Seeing drunken players having a good time is always funny.”
How long do you see yourself doing this?
“Until I’m done with college.”
