People have long debated the possibility of the existence of ghosts. We have used them in many parts of our culture for centuries. What is it that fascinates us with ghosts? Is it the possibility of an existence after life has ceased? If so, what type of existence is it? Is it an eternity of drifting around the world searching for a way out? Maybe it is an eternity of losing our way to the after world of heaven or hell. Regardless of reason, we have long had a fascination with them.
Lately, television have bombarded us with shows like Ghosthunters, Ghosthunters International, Paranormal State, Mystery Quest and Haunting. These shows always have individuals using scientific equipment to photo and listen for ghosts. The hunters then go through the data to decipher the results. Many times an orb is photographed. Supposedly, an orb is a ghost entity. Recordings are made of sounds. It is then played slowly back to try and understand what the ghost is saying.
I am always amazed how these hunters always have red dot eyes and jerky heads as they look for ghosts. About the time you start to try and figure out where they are headed, a commercial breaks in. After the commercial break, they review the last segment and you discover nothing.
Like anyone else, I have heard strange noises during the night. I haven’t seen any orbs or had any ghosts speak to me. The noises are man made. I have steam pipes that creak, a motor vibration, a ticking clock or a snoring wife.
Ghosts are generally described as solitary essences which haunt particular objects, locations or people with which they were associated with in life, though stories of phantom armies, ships, trains and even ghost pets have also been recounted
I can’t imagine why anyone would want to be a ghost. Some people say that individuals become a ghost, because of a lost love or a terrible crime against them. They return to haunt houses or locations, because they want revenge. This tells me that their emotions live on long after they have departed.
There are some legends of ghosts that have been around for a long time. I have heard tales of ghosts, still around from the inquisition. Old tales and legends just never die I guess.
I sometimes think that it is the entertainment world that keeps the idea of ghosts alive. It seems like every week there is something new coming out regarding ghosts. From that perspective, there truly are ghosts. Do I believe in ghosts myself? nawwwwh.
