Winter outerwear is usually thought of in terms of the traditionally winter coat or jacket, but there are several key varieties of jackets and coats as well as other types of winter outerwear. In this article we are going to further explore vests and two varieties of winter jackets.
A Down Winter Vest
Winter vests offer a great way to stay warm when you are inside and do not need the thickness or full body covering a regular jacket offers. Consider purchasing a down filled winter vest to add warmth where you need it – the back and neck area. For myself, I know that when my back gets cold, I get chills. A down vest fights coldness in this targeted area while offering a bit of layering pizzazz.
A Regular Winter Vest
If the idea of down seems way too hot for you, purchase a traditional vest in a tighter woven material to add warmth. A corduroy vest or a tightly knit vest is not going to add the bulk of a down vest but it will add more warmth than a loose denim vest or satin lined business vest. You can purchase these new, but a great variety will also be available at any thrift store.
A Winter Jacket with a Removable Lining
In the early autumn or late spring, there is no better option for outerwear than a winter jacket with a zip-in and zip-out lining. On cold mornings the lining offers massive warmth while being removable midday if the weather turns warm during your lunch hour. The zip-out lining also offers you the option of slimming down or bulking out your silhouette when needed!
A Winter Windbreaker
If you are into layering, then more often than not, your long undershirt, turtleneck, and sweater are going to be more than warm enough for outerwear based on temperature alone. However, the main problem with winter weather is the briskness of the winds. The cold breeze will send a chill through yet a lot faster than a static temperature! To combat this chill without having to wear a parker, purchase a lined windbreaker. The lining will keep the synthetic windbreaker material from adding a chill, while the synthetic fabric works its magic against the cold weather! For a short walk around the corner or into your office building – this is a very economical outerwear choice!
Don’t feel obligated to go with a full parka this winter when you are running errands. With these four clothing options you can stay warm while dressing appropriately for both indoor and outdoor temperatures!
