Aubrey Graham a.k.a Drake is a Canadian born American rapper. Collaborating with Lil Wayne and Young Money Records, Drake has risen to superstardom through his music. Previously a star on Disney’s series “Degrassi” Drake has changed his whole image to fit that of a rapper.
Lyrically, Drake is a decent rapper. He does have some witty punchlines and interesting stories, but i would not rank him amongst the all-time greats. I believe him to be extremely over rated. Drake’s debut album, Thank Me Later was released on June 15th, 2010, and was the most hyped album of the year. Lil Wayne projected that Drake would sell 2 million albums in the first week. Unfortunately for them, Thank Me Later is yet to sell 1 million copies in the United States, 5 months after its release. Drake released his album a week before Eminem’s newest album “Recovery.” The two albums were released so close together to promote the competition between the two. As of today, Recovery has sold 3 million albums in the U.S, over 2 million more albums than Drake’s Thank Me Later.
Like I said, Drake is a decent rapper. He also is a good actor. Drake is nothing more than an actor in his antics as a rapper. Our boy Aubrey grew up with a silver spoon in his mouth. He is from a wealthy family and has been pampered since he was a youngen. What gets me is that Ive recently seen Drake throwing gang signs up. Can you believe that? Little Degrassi Drake a gang banging rapper.
I’m sorry to you Drake fans, but Drake should not be rapping. Don’t get me wrong, the music industry is all about entertainment which means it is not to be taken seriously, but I personally would rather listen to Nas, Eminem, and Jay-Z, three people who lived through poverty and trife who overcame it all through their music. Drake was handed his record deal because he was connected in Hollywood through the Disney Channell. Drake is not a rapper, he is an actor. He is faking his whole persona and after his extremely week sales on his album, I guarantee he will not be a mainstay in the rap game.
