There may be a segment of twenty-something adults who do party constantly, are sexually promiscuous and have lives teeming with drama. Their lack of respect for themselves, each other and people in general is obvious not only on television, but in today’s society. They are spoiled and believe the world owes them a good time or simply owes them. Advice falls on deaf ears as they see such advice as criticism, and ignore or angrily reject any attempts at guidance.
This segment of society is extremely rude in their interactions. Their language is filled with obscenities, and shouting is often the norm. These young people erroneously believe the louder and ruder their actions, the more “respect” they will receive from others. Relationships tend to be extremely dysfunctional, because the drinking and partying warps any attempts at a decent, deep, warm and loving relationship.
Young men and women get wasted; indulge in actions that leave little room for any healthy relationship to exist. How does a young man or woman mend a relationship, when in a moment of being extremely intoxicated, say or do things they cannot remember the following day, but the partner remembers? How can they fix what the do not remember doing or saying? Curiously, many people forget that whatever is said inebriated has been thought while sober.
Without trust and respect, what chance does a relationship have for survival? How can a young man respect a young woman who flaunts herself in front of others and discusses the most intimate details of herself with them? How can a young woman respect a young man who tries to have intimate relationships with any woman who seems willing to kiss or provide a quick tryst?
These young people have a million and one justifications and excuses for their actions. Unfortunately some parents either openly support, or have given up trying to parent their children. These young adults run amok in society. These people have no responsibilities, go from job to job, start and stop school, party all night and sleep all day. Sure they want this and that in the future, but have no goals or plans in how to obtain any of their future needs or desires.
They call themselves adults, but they are adults without maturity. They lack the wisdom to understand the consequences of actions and choices. Alcohol or other substances must be a part of their activities, because without alcohol, the activity is boring. They are addicted to the “buzz” and the false bravado alcohol consumption creates.
Sadly, these young people may end up at the bottom in society as they get older. Although many of their peers are busy in school or working to build futures, these other young people appear oblivious to the realities of life. They are too busy being young and having a good time, but will this “good time” be at the expense of their futures? How can they develop into productive and healthy members of society when everything they do currently, is so dysfunctional and unhealthy?
Although anything is possible in life, one can’t help, but wonder, how many will seek treatment for alcoholism and drug addiction in the future, or ruin futures with these addictions that will develop over time. Getting wasted may take on a new meaning of a wasted life. Perhaps this segment of society is a lost generation, “the just a moment” and “@#$% you generation”? Only time will show the consequences of their actions, lack of judgment and maturity.
