Art lovers, take note: the Dumbo Art Festival is coming to town September 24th to 26th. There are never-ending opportunities to go out and have all different kinds of fun in Brooklyn, but the Dumbo Art Festival is a particularly big event for artists – and art lovers – all over Brooklyn. While the festival will be extremely appealing to even non-artist residents, there are certainly multiple reasons for participants themselves to be enthused.
The grand prize at the festival is one of those reasons. It is especially appealing given the high-cost New York real estate market, as the winner is getting a free studio for a year as well as a cash prize. Artist studios will be open and the artists themselves will be filling the streets. Sponsors include ConEdison and Sovereign Bank, and in the spirit of inclusivity that Brooklyn is well known for, featured participants will include not only painters but also poets, photographers and other artists of all kinds.
Visitors are expected to reach into the hundreds of thousands, which is not surprising given the scope and popularity of the festival. There are not many cities as enamored with art as New York, and Brooklyn is no exception. While this borough is known for its working class practicality, there remains a deep vein of appreciation for artists of all kinds that continues to fuel the success of the Dumbo Festival year after year. So residents should take the F train to York Street and enjoy the festival.
