I love all things Cajun when it comes to food. What can I say? I’m a little bit hot and spicy.
While my preference is to create my own Cajun seasoning, from time to time I will try products out there on the market. One of my favorite Cajun seasoning products comes from Durkee. It is Durkee’s Cajun Fish Seasoning Mix.
This comes in a .75-oz size, which represents 4 servings. A serving size is about 3 oz of prepared Cajun flavored fish.
There are 120 calories in each serving, with about 20 of those being fat-related. Durkee’s Cajun Fish Seasoning Mix contains no cholesterol or fat. It does; however, have 4 grams of carbohydrate, 2 grams of sugar, and 3470 milligrams of salt.
To the positive, this mix provides 8% of the daily-recommended amount of vitamin A; 4% of the required iron; 2% of the needed vitamin C and 2% of the recommended amount of calcium. It contains no protein or fiber.
Ingredients include garlic, miscellaneous spices, onion, paprika, salt, sugar, tomato powder and vinegar. They also include citric acid, maltodextrin, modified food starch, natural flavors, silicone dioxide and xanthan gum.
Fixing fish with Durkee’s Cajun Fish Seasoning Mix without the included roasting bag is just as easy as with it. You can choose to bake, broil or grill the fish once it is coated.
To coat the fish, place it inside the bag and pour the seasoning mix over the top. Shake the bag back and forth gently until the fish is completely covered with the seasoning mix. Then bake in the bag or fix as desired.
To bake the fish inside the bag, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the bag sealed with the included nylong band into a large roasting pan. Make sure the pan is large enough that the bag won’t touch the sides while cooking.
Place the fish dish into the bottom half of the oven, giving the bag room to expand upward as well as outward while it cooks. Make sure the bag will not touch any heated surfaces or the seal will be broken and the dish will not cook properly.
Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the fish is cooked as desired. Check often during that time to make sure the fish is cooking properly and the bag has not broken.
Once done, remove the fish from the oven and cut the bag open. Transfer the dish to a platter or plate and serve alone or with other dishes.
While you can microwave this product as well, it is not recommended unless your microwave is large enough to prevent the bag from touching any of its sides during the cooking process. If you choose this method, reduce cooking time to between 7 and 10 minutes or until the fish is done as desired.
